CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/-- Transkaryotic Therapies,
Inc. (Nasdaq: TKTX) today announced that it has named Marcio Voloch, Ph.D.
Vice President, Process Development. In this newly created position, he will
have overall responsibility for directing and coordinating all the process
development activities at TKT including cell culture, purification,
formulation and analytical development of recombinant proteins.
Dr. Voloch was formerly Group Director, Molecular Biology and Process
Research within the Biotechnology Development Department at Schering Plough
Research Institute. During his fourteen year tenure at Schering-Plough, he
led the design, development and validation strategy of a new commercial
production process for Schering's recombinant interferon alfa product.
Additionally, he oversaw the process and product characterization development
for pegylated interferon alfa, which resulted in the first FDA-approved
pegylated interferon. Dr. Voloch also held research and technical positions
at Hoffman-La Roche, Inc., Celgene Corporation and Purdue University. He
received a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Israel Institute of Technology
and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University.
