Ryder Partners With Instructional Technologies to Provide Online Driver Training

    MIAMI, June 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Ryder System, Inc. (NYSE: R), a
global leader in transportation and supply chain management solutions, today
announced that it has partnered with Instructional Technologies, Inc. (ITI) to
host, market and distribute an Internet version of ITI's interactive driver
training program called TREAD-1. The program, which will be marketed under
the name Ryder Pro-TREAD, is designed for Ryder customers, drivers and the
transportation industry, and is available through
http://www.Rydersafetyservices.com , a division of Ryder.
The program is a series of highly interactive lessons, compliant with the
only federally approved driver training lessons designed to increase driver
safety and strengthen risk management. The program includes training in
topics such as defensive driving, driver wellness, driver qualifications and
hours of service, and is designed to train both new and veteran commercial
truck drivers in large fleets or small trucking companies.
"Safety is a core value at Ryder, and because of this commitment, we
continually look for ways to make our highways safer for our families and
communities," said Scott Gates, General Manager of Ryder Fleet Products. "We
needed a quality driver training program for our customers, drivers and the
transportation industry that would be offered on the Internet. Since we had
past success with ITI's TREAD-1 program, it was only natural for us to
collaborate with them for this online version. We expect that Ryder Pro-TREAD
will help train drivers to use safety best practices and strengthen a
company's risk management profile."
Patrick Lydon, Ryder Senior Manager of Safety and Loss Prevention, adds,
"This program provides quality training and retraining in all areas of safe
and legal driving. Because the training is delivered over the Internet, it is
now accessible to the smaller and more remote carriers or to any fleet that
has drivers located in remote locations. We're pleased that Ryder Pro-TREAD
has now addressed that challenge."
    E. Bruce Weiss, Executive President of ITI, notes, "From the risk
management perspective, Ryder Pro-TREAD should have enormous implications for
its users. Not only can fleets train so as to avoid costly incidents in the
first place, but the free, private, web-based data management system each
customer is given allows them to track and document that training for legal
and risk management issues."
ITI's CEO, Jim Voorhees, is proud of ITI's partnership with Ryder. "When
we introduced TREAD-1 to the industry five years ago, Internet delivery was
not an option. Ryder recognized the opportunities that technological advances
now allow and approached us to produce our lessons for this open-ended
delivery system. This collaboration has been an exciting area of growth for
us, and we look forward to serving thousands of additional drivers. We're
delighted to be working with a company that is committed to the highest safety
levels for its employees."
    Ryder Pro-TREAD is accessible at http://www.Rydersafetyservices.com .
Business accounts are available and lessons can be purchased using credit
cards.
