SAN FRANCISCO, April 15 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS MarketWatch
(http://cbs.marketwatch.com), the premier Internet financial supersite, today
named Irwin L. Kellner as its first chief economist.
Kellner, formerly chief economist of Chemical and Manufacturers Hanover
banks in New York City, joins the growing CBS.MarketWatch.com lineup of
commentators, including economist and novelist Paul Erdman, stocks strategists
Elaine Garzarelli, Frank Cappiello, Cedd Moses, bond commentator Michael
Bazdarich and CBS MarketWatch editor-in-chief Thom Calandra. All provide
regular and exclusive real-time markets and company commentary for investors
on the CBS.MarketWatch.com website.
Kellner, in his first interview on CBS.MarketWatch.com last week ,
correctly forecast the $62 billion merger between U.S. banks NationsBank and
BankAmerica. A native New Yorker, Kellner is Weller Professor of Economics at
Hofstra University in New York.
"We look forward to Dr. Kellner's interest rate and economic forecasts,"
said CBS MarketWatch CEO and President Larry Kramer. "This is an important
step for us, and our readers. We are substantially raising the bar on the
quality of commentary available on any free web site. Dr. Kellner gives us a
leg up on our coverage of sweeping consumer and markets trends. Best of all ,
he does it in real time, giving our readers a chance to react in these
extremely volatile markets."
Kellner is a past president of the Forecasters Club of New York. The
native New Yorker studied at Brooklyn College and The New School for Social
Research. He has spent time as a journalist and as a television and radio
commentator.
CBS MarketWatch correspondents also provide live financial news reports on
the CBS radio and television networks, and the news operation plans to use
Kellner as an analyst in television and radio appearances.
"Like our colleague Paul Erdman, Dr. Kellner is an economist you can talk
to," said Calandra. "I like him, and I think individual investors will make
and save real money taking his advice."
Ranked as the leading Internet site for financial content by both Barrons
