Eighth Synchronized Release of Rational Suite Adds Power to Established
Platform for Software Development
LEXINGTON, Mass., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today introduced Rational Suite(R) v2002
Release 2, the eighth synchronized release of Rational Suite in less than
three and a half years. This release expands Rational's "Extended Development
Experience" by introducing Rational(R) XDE(TM) Modeler, a new member of the
Rational(R) XDE(TM) Family, and ScriptAssure(TM), an industry-first capability
in Rational Suite(R) TestStudio(R) that produces resilient test scripts for
Java and Web business applications.
Rational Suite provides systems engineers, analysts, developers, testers,
and project leaders with more than 15 pre-tested, integrated products in eight
Rational Suite editions. With this release, Rational expands its unique
"Extended Development Experience" to architects and designers of business
applications and software products, and provides more power for Java and .NET
developers and testers.
Rational's "Extended Development Experience" provides a frictionless
design and development environment by tightly integrating Rational's products
into IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer and Microsoft Visual Studio
.NET, empowering developers to work directly within their integrated
development environments (IDEs). With this release, Rational integrates
Rational XDE Modeler into these IDEs while integrating Rational Suite
TestStudio into the Eclipse-based WebSphere Studio IDE and Rational(R)
PurifyPlus into the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET IDE. Combined, these
integrations expand the "Extended Development Experience," broadening its
reach to testers, designers and architects.
For developers of embedded software products, Rational Suite v2002 Release
2 includes a new version of Rational Rose(R) RealTime. Enhancements to
Rational(R) ProjectConsole offer new capabilities to project leaders of teams
focused on developing business applications, embedded software, and software
products and systems.
"Rational Suite v2002 Release 2 provides tools and best practices that
liberate development teams from the chaos that plagues software projects,
enabling them to increase productivity and meet their goals," said Eric
Schurr, chief marketing officer, Rational Software. "Our strong track record
of regular improvements to our software development platform ensures that
systems engineers, analysts, developers, testers and project leaders can
efficiently work together to create great software faster."
Solutions for Architects, Designers and Developers
Rational Suite v2002 Release 2 adds value for architects, designers and
developers through the following:
-- Rational XDE Modeler, a new product, enables architects and designers
to build visual models that combine the industry-standard Unified
Modeling Language (UML) with free-form drawing. Rational XDE Modeler
runs inside IBM WebSphere Studio Application Developer, IBM WebSphere
Workbench (built on Eclipse technology) and Microsoft Visual
Studio.NET, allowing architects, designers, and developers to share a
common user experience;
-- Rational(R) XDE(TM) Professional v2002 Release 2 now offers developers
data modeling, Web publishing, reporting, and "assisted modeling"
capabilities;
-- Rational PurifyPlus v2002 Release 2, the first and only runtime
analysis product to run inside the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET
environment, provides developers using Microsoft .NET frictionless
access to memory leak detection, code coverage, and performance
analysis from directly inside their IDE;
-- Rational Rose RealTime v2002 Release 2 provides developers of embedded
software with passive state machine code generation capabilities, which
when combined with Rational Rose RealTime's active class code
generation, enables code generation for all components of a real-time
and embedded system.
Solutions for Testers
Rational Suite v2002 Release 2 enhances support for testers with
ScriptAssure, an industry-first capability in Rational Suite TestStudio that
produces exceptionally resilient test scripts for Java and Web business
applications.
Most users of automated test tools have struggled with a common problem:
automated test scripts typically require extensive maintenance to keep them
functioning as an application's GUI changes during its development. With the
breakthrough resilient test-script technology in ScriptAssure, testers enjoy
the benefits of automated testing earlier and longer throughout the
development process. ScriptAssure also requires less programming to maintain,
so that the test team can spend its time on more important activities.
Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 adds Java as a scripting
language, which allows testers to collaborate with developers to create
powerful test suites. This new version of Rational Suite TestStudio also
includes IBM WebSphere Studio Workbench, a full-function Java IDE built on
Eclipse technology that integrates with IBM's WebSphere Studio products.
Solutions for Project Leaders
Rational has enhanced Rational ProjectConsole with the following new
features that enable project leaders to more rapidly ensure project
predictability:
-- Metrics warehouse configuration wizards;
-- Rational(R) TestManager "out-of the box" templates and sample
collections;
-- Microsoft Project tutorials;
-- Support for Sybase SQL server database.
