Introduces ScriptAssure, An Industry-First Capability That Produces Resilient
Test Scripts
LEXINGTON, Mass., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL) today announced Rational Suite(R)
TestStudio(R) v2002 Release 2, which includes ScriptAssure(TM), an industry-
first capability that produces exceptionally resilient test scripts for Java
and Web business applications.
Traditionally, users of automated test tools have been reluctant to build
test scripts early in the development cycle due to the high probability that
these scripts would need extensive maintenance when elements of the
application's graphical user interface (GUI) changed.
Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 solves this problem with
ScriptAssure, a new technology that makes test scripts dramatically more
resilient to changes in an application's GUI. Using a unique variable
pattern-matching algorithm, ScriptAssure significantly reduces test script
maintenance by automatically finding the correct object to test, despite
changes from the previous application build.
ScriptAssure also automatically validates dynamic application content by
using a pattern-matching technology that enables testers to validate rapidly
changing components of Java and Web applications. With ScriptAssure, testers
enjoy the benefits of automated testing earlier and longer throughout the
development process.
Develop and Edit Test Scripts in Java
Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 enables testers to simply
record, capture and playback test scripts and use Java as a scripting
language. This makes it easy to create scripts and facilitates collaboration
with developers. The use of Java also enables testers to easily find training
to enhance their skills.
Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 includes the IBM WebSphere
Studio Workbench, which is a full-function Java IDE built on Eclipse
technology. Testers can build, enhance, and maintain scripts in a full-
function Java IDE that integrates with IBM's WebSphere Studio products. This
allows testers and developers to work in a similar environment and share a
common user experience.
"IBM is pleased to partner with Rational, who continues to provide Java
developers with innovative products," said Scott Hebner, director of marketing
for IBM WebSphere infrastructure software. "By using Rational Suite TestStudio
and IBM's WebSphere Studio, testers can easily test, edit and debug
applications in a seamlessly integrated environment."
Version Control Capabilities
Components of Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 are seamlessly
integrated with Rational(R) ClearCase(R) and Rational(R) ClearCase(R) LT,
enabling automated version control of test scripts, object maps, and other
test artifacts. Leveraging the powerful functionality of Rational ClearCase
helps practitioners avoid losing their work by ensuring test scripts are not
inadvertently overwritten or lost.
Rational ClearCase LT is included with Rational Suite TestStudio. Testers
requiring a more powerful software configuration management (SCM) solution can
easily upgrade to full Rational ClearCase and still leverage the version
control capabilities that are integrated with Rational Suite TestStudio.
New Testing Resources
Rational has enhanced Rational Suite TestStudio v2002 Release 2 with a
significantly expanded testing-focused knowledge center on the Rational
Developer NetworkSM (http://www.rational.net) and new instructor-led and
online training courses from Rational University. These comprehensive
resources reduce the learning curve for novice testers and enable testing
professionals to improve their skills.
This expanded testing knowledge center on the Rational Developer Network
provides Rational's customers with easy access to the most relevant content
related to testing. This includes information on testing best practices,
deriving test cases from use cases, and organizing and managing the testing
process. The Rational Developer Network is available to all Rational
customers with an active support contract.
Rational is also offering a new online training course entitled
"Principles of Test Automation for GUI Testing" and a new instructor-led
training course entitled "Essentials of Functional Testing with Rational(R)
TeamTest for Java and Web Applications." These courses will offer technical
testers information on the concepts involved in automating testing, as well as
information on the new features and functionality of Rational Suite TestStudio
v2002 Release 2.
Rational is hosting a Webinar on June 12, 2002 at 4:00 PM EDT to provide
additional details on the new testing capabilities in Rational Suite
TestStudio. Additional information is available at
