Creates 'Standard of Excellence' for Expert Use of PTC software solutions
NEEDHAM, Mass., June 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PTC (Nasdaq: PMTC), the
product development company(TM), today announced the PTC Certified
Professional Program, a comprehensive testing program that validates the
skills of Pro/ENGINEER users based on the latest release - Pro/ENGINEER(R)
Wildfire(TM). Certification sets a new standard of excellence in the use of
the industry's most widely used product design and development solution.
"Certification is an increasingly important benchmark in fields where
demonstrated abilities with software is crucial," says Chris Newell, Senior
Vice President for PTC's Customer Education and Knowledge Division. "It
determines the effectiveness of training programs, provides an objective
benchmark for validating skills and guides professional development programs.
Increasingly it provides companies with competitive advantage in bidding for
contracts by helping to demonstrate skills in particular application areas."
PTC's first certification exam, Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Level 1, is based on
the latest release of the software. The exam is designed for users with a
minimum of one year of experience using Pro/ENGINEER who are now moving to
Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire.
This initial exam is based upon critical knowledge needed to successfully
use Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire to design and produce products. It includes:
creating parts, creating assemblies, creating sheet metal geometry, modifying
parts and assemblies and creating production drawings. Beyond domain
knowledge, the test will certify that users can apply concepts and techniques
in designing products as well as recognize and implement best practices while
using Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire.
Using subject matter experts from both PTC and customers to provide a good
cross-section of industry and domain expertise, PTC worked with The Donath
Group, a consulting firm that specializes in developing fair and accurate
testing programs, to statistically validate the exam. PTC developed a beta
test, which was administered to more than 300 participants worldwide in order
to obtain feedback to gauge the test's content, accuracy and credibility.
A map of suggested educational requirements that make up the test, as well
as sample questions, are available on the PTC website,
http://www.ptc.com/go/certification. For users interested in brushing up or learning
new skills, a PTC-certified training class, "Fast Track to Pro/E Wildfire" is
available to improve Pro/E Wildfire comprehension. The five-day, instructor-
led course is offered through PTC training centers or through PTC-certified
training providers. Go to http://www.ptc.com/services/edserv/index.htm for
additional information.
The first Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Level 1 exam will be offered on June 8 at
the PTC/USER World Event in Orlando, Florida. The exam will be available to
all conference attendees during the entire event via an on-site examination
room. Visit http://www.donathgroup.com/ptc/ to pre-register or view times and
locations. The test takes only 90 minutes to complete with results available
immediately.
After the conference, PTC will utilize Prometric, a worldwide testing
organization, to offer the test at more than 3,500 test centers worldwide.
Although the test is taken online, testing centers provide the proctoring and
verification procedures to ensure exam integrity. Foreign language versions
of The Level 1 Exam will be available one to two months after the June
release. For information on specific testing locations, go to
http://www.prometric.com.
"We are excited about this new PTC offering and expect the program to grow
and offer more product specializations at varied levels of mastery," said
Niamh O'Byrne, PTC certification manager. "A Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire Level 2
exam for Pro/E Wildfire users is scheduled to be released in the Fall of 2003,
for engineers with at least two-to-five years of hands-on work experience with
Pro/ENGINEER," O'Byrne noted. "The current exam also includes a survey to
help us determine what our user community wants from a certification program
on an ongoing basis."
Users who successfully complete certification will be listed as certified
professionals on the PTC website as a means to verify certification. In
addition, PTC will provide certificates, a lapel pin and "PTC Certified
Professional" logos for use on business cards and websites.
