Java Technology-Based Device Developers Use Rational Rose RealTime To Rapidly
Develop And Test Quality Applications For Java Technology-Based Devices
LEXINGTON, Mass., June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational Software (Nasdaq: RATL),
the e-development company(TM), today announced Rational Rose(R) RealTime
support for the Java(TM) 2 Platform, Micro Edition (J2ME) and Mobile
Information Device Profile (MIDP), as a direct result of collaboration with
Sun Microsystems. With built-in support for MIDP classes, Rational Rose
RealTime has been enhanced for development with the J2ME platform, enabling
Java technology-based device developers to model concurrent, event-driven
reactive applications for embedded systems and devices.
Rational Rose RealTime rapidly develops quality device applications via
the Unified Modeling Language, then automatically generates and deploys
complete Java technology-based applications into pagers, cell phones, set top
boxes, automobiles, personal digital assistants (PDAs) and all other devices
using J2ME and MIDP technology. The J2ME platform is the first consolidation
of Java technology for the embedded market. As Java technology enabled
devices proliferate, the demand for Java technology support from practitioners
has increased.
"As the J2ME platform becomes the standard for Java technology-based
device development, Sun and Rational have come together to provide a complete
design and test solution that will create a combined benefit for our
customers," said Scott Clinton, group manager, Enterprise and Web Development
at Sun Microsystems, Inc. "Java technology developers utilizing Rational Rose
RealTime have a tool that is ready to work with the J2ME platform out of the
box, enabling them to speed development and time to market."
"Rational is excited about providing support for J2ME and feels that the
collaboration with Sun will produce mutual customer benefits such as increased
quality and faster time to market for all Java technology-based device
development," said Steve Saunders, vice president, UML and Language
Automations for Rational Software. "Rational Rose RealTime brings together
world class modeling and automated testing for the design, implementation and
quality assurance of Java-based applications for embedded systems and
devices."
As the world's leading UML development environment for designing and
testing real-time, embedded and distributed software systems, Rational Rose
RealTime offers individual users and teams a wide variety of benefits such as:
-- Scalability for applications, from simple device applications to large-
scale infrastructure
