WARRENDALE, Pa., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (Nasdaq: AEOS) today announced that total
sales for the four-week period ended June 1, 2002 increased 7.9% to
$87.0 million, compared to $80.7 million for the four-week period ended
June 2, 2001. Total sales for the period include $5.4 million from the
Bluenotes/Thriftys operation, compared to $6.2 million for the corresponding
period last year.
Comparable store sales for the American Eagle Outfitters stores declined
7.1% for the May period. Consolidated comparable store sales, which include
American Eagle and Bluenotes/Thriftys stores, decreased 7.7% for the month
compared to the corresponding period ended June 2, 2001. Bluenotes/Thriftys
comparable store sales declined 14.7% in May compared to last year.
Total sales for the seventeen-week period ended June 1, 2002 increased
9.8% to $364.9 million, compared to $332.2 million for the seventeen-week
period ended June 2, 2001. Total sales for the period include $22.9 million
from the Bluenotes/Thriftys operation, compared to $26.6 million for the
corresponding period last year.
Comparable store sales for the American Eagle Outfitters stores declined
5.5% for the seventeen-week period ended June 1, 2002. Consolidated
comparable store sales, which include American Eagle and Bluenotes/Thriftys
stores, decreased 6.5% for the seventeen-week period compared to the
corresponding period last year. Bluenotes/Thriftys comparable store sales
declined 16.9% for the period compared to the corresponding period last year.
