WILMINGTON, N.C., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
aaiPharma Inc. (Nasdaq: AAII) and the Yahweh Center Children's Village
broke ground today on the region's first-ever Adoption Readiness Cottage, one
of several residential cottages planned to expand this unique program's
capacity to serve neglected and abused children throughout eastern North
Carolina. The Adoption Readiness Cottage will be dedicated to preparing
children who are high risk for attachment issues while they are waiting for
adoptive families and to helping children who have experienced disruptions to
their adoptions.
Carla J. Roberts, CSW, Executive Director and Founder of the Yahweh Center
stated, "The Adoption Readiness Cottage is a much needed addition to our
Village. By sponsoring this Cottage, aaiPharma is helping us double the
number of children we can serve residentially at the Yahweh Center Children's
Village. The Adoption Readiness Cottage will allow us to provide hope,
healing and restoration to a greater number of traumatized children in need."
"We have tremendous respect and admiration for the work being done by the
Yahweh Center and the impact the organization has had on the lives and well
being of so many young children in need throughout eastern North Carolina,"
commented Dr. Philip S. Tabbiner, President and CEO of aaiPharma. "I hope
other members of our community will join us in supporting the mission and work
of the Yahweh Center."
The Yahweh Center Children's Village is a non-denominational regional,
residential treatment program and child-placing agency for abused and
neglected children founded on a shared faith in Christ. Unlike any other non-
profit residential treatment program in the region, the Yahweh Center
Children's Village is a developing vision offering a comprehensive continuum
of care to latency age children in eastern North Carolina. The Center is
licensed to provide mental health services to children by the North Carolina
Division of Facility Services and its child-placing license is with the state
Division of Social Services. The Yahweh Center also has Division of Mental
Health accreditation and was recently awarded national accreditation by the
Council on Accreditation of the Council of Children and Families.
The aaiPharma-sponsored Adoption Readiness Cottage is expected to be
completed by October 2003. The Adoption Readiness Cottage will be dedicated
to preparing children who are high risk for attachment issues while they are
waiting for adoptive families and meeting head on the issues surrounding
children who have been adopted and later face challenges and issues that
threaten to disrupt the adoption.
This is only one of several cottages planned for the Children's Village as
part of the Yahweh Center's overall vision for comprehensive care.
Ultimately, the Children's Village will provide four residential cottages on
12 acres of land in northern New Hanover County. The Children's Village
currently includes the Bill Childs' Cape Fear Rotary Cottage for children in
need of the highest level of professional care. The children residing in this
cottage receive help in recovering from major trauma such as sexual abuse and
severe neglect. Also completed is the Sinclair-Mebane Administrative &
Program Building, which houses the staff offices and services administration.
The building also provides space for volunteer and staff training and rooms
designed for play therapy for children and separate space for family therapy
sessions. Eventually, these counseling services will be offered for families
and their children who do not require residential services but are struggling
with difficult issues of daily life.
