PAETEC Communications Selects Lucent Technologies' New 'SMART' Call Processing Service

  PAETEC is first customer to deploy Lucent's SMART service throughout its
     nationwide network to help simplify switch maintenance and upgrade

    CHICAGO and FAIRPORT, N.Y., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- PAETEC
Communications, Inc., and Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced
that PAETEC has deployed Lucent's new SMART (Simplifying Maintenance and
Reduced Translations) Conversion Service to help simplify the process of
updating and maintaining switching equipment across its nationwide
29-market network.
    The new Lucent service helps service providers save costs by
dramatically reducing time and simplifying analysis, maintenance, and
troubleshooting of call processing databases on its network switches.
PAETEC is the first customer to deploy Lucent's new SMART throughout its
network.
