Lucent Technologies and Simpler Networks Announce New Solutions to Help Service Providers Automate the Last Mile

Companies to provide automated main distribution frame solutions for
            provisioning and automating high-bandwidth services

CHICAGO, June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Lucent Technologies (NYSE:
LU) today announced a global reseller agreement with Simpler Networks, a
telecommunications equipment and software manufacturer, to automate the
introduction of new services and other enhancements to the last mile.
The companies will provide local service providers with integrated
automated main distribution frame (AMDF) hardware, software and end-to-end
services solutions that enable the delivery of new high-bandwidth
multimedia services quickly and efficiently while reducing their operating
costs dramatically.
Under this agreement and expanding its network integrator strategy,
Lucent will resell Simpler Networks' central office EZ-MDF(TM) AMDF
hardware and software and provide its own end-to-end suite of services to
help service providers install and integrate the AMDF products in their
networks.
"Our agreement with Lucent to provide the EZ-MDF(TM) hardware and
software will help service providers around the world accelerate their
service deployment while significantly reducing their delivery costs," said
Harry Carr, CEO of Simpler Networks. "Our AMDF solutions combined with
Lucent's extensive services expertise will help service providers eliminate
the high costs and delays associated with manual intervention at the
central office."
With the Lucent-Simpler Networks AMDF solution, local service providers
will also be able to provision and test new customer services within
minutes, rather than days or weeks using manual systems, and significantly
lower their operations costs.
"This global reseller agreement with Simpler Networks is another step
forward in Lucent's multi-vendor maintenance and deployment strategy," said
Jim Johnson, senior vice president of maintenance, deployment and managed
services, Lucent Worldwide Services. "Our AMDF solutions will help service
providers automate the last mile and deliver high-bandwidth multimedia
services customers are demanding."
Leveraging engineers, installers and consultants with more than 17
years of experience in the field, Lucent will provide professional and
consulting services to help service providers analyze and evaluate the
benefits of AMDF solutions. In addition, Lucent will provide an integration
lab for testing the AMDF system; equipment, installation site materials and
services to deploy the solution; and on-site and remote technical support
services to help service providers optimize their network resources. This
provides customers a single point of contact for both product and service
as they implement AMDF solutions.
