OS9000 Metro Ethernet Switch and FiberDriver 802.3AH Optical Ethernet
Demarcation Expand the Flexibility and Simplicity of Optical Ethernet E-LAN
and E-Line Metro Ethernet Services
CHATSWORTH, Calif., June 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- MRV
COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq: MRVC), a leading provider of products and
services for out-of-band networking, WDM and optical transport, Metro
Ethernet, fiber optic components, 10GE Optical Ethernet solutions and other
service aware networking products, today debuted a new solution for Metro
Ethernet Carriers enabling flexible, yet simple, deployment of optical
Ethernet services using an integrated end-to-end Ethernet access system
based on the OptiSwitch 9000 Metro Ethernet switch as Ethernet Aggregation
with MPLS and VPLS capabilities and the FiberDriver 802.3AH EFM Optical
Ethernet as Metro Ethernet Demarcation. The innovative solutions enable
Metro Ethernet Carriers to use one integrated Optical Ethernet system for
truly universal broadband access, employing a single Metro Ethernet
technology end-to-end, and enabling unlimited broadband applications and
services for residential and business users. The MRV new Optical Ethernet
Access solution has simplified the provision of new EPL, EVPL, and E-LAN
Metro Ethernet services benefits of centrally provisioned systems,
real-time optical performance monitoring and fiber optimization using
Bi-Directional Single Fiber (BX), CWDM and DWDM technologies with Optical
Ethernet integration.
The OS9000 Metro Ethernet Switch series, launched last year as the
industry's first carrier-class Metro Ethernet platform to aggregate optical
Ethernet connectivity, provisions enhanced MPLS and VPLS Metro Ethernet
services and aggregate WDM optical transport, now additionally supports
aggregation of Optical Ethernet EFM standard 802.3AH devices and
auto-discovery of all 802.3AH Optical Ethernet Demarcation devices.
The new flexible Optical Ethernet Access solutions enable the OS9000
Metro Ethernet Switch to aggregate Optical Ethernet Demarcation devices
using Gigabit or Fast Ethernet subscriber's connectivity per system. As a
result of the flexible connectivity of the OS9000 Metro Ethernet switch,
these signals can be passed on to groomed Multi-Gigabit, 10GE, and WDM
feeds and act as a second-mile optical Ethernet transport vehicle to
provider edge metro Ethernet platforms, offering a flexible, scalable
solution.
"The OptiSwitch 9000 Metro Ethernet switch has already begun to be
adopted for our customers' high-end Optical Ethernet business services
because it allows them to cost-effectively deploy a variety of bandwidths
to their customers and gives them an infrastructure that can support the
roll out of next-generation services like VoIP and video," said Chen
Genossar, Senior Vice President for MRV Communications. Mr. Genossar
continues, "Xspedius Communications is the first joint customer win under a
reseller agreement between MRV and Lucent for OptiSwitch demarcation
solutions."
"The use of Metro Ethernet is growing because it frees business
customers from bandwidth constraints using a technology they are familiar
with," said Noam Lotan, MRV's President and CEO. "We've worked hard to
design the most comprehensive Optical Ethernet EFM features to empower our
Metro Ethernet carrier partners to keep up with market demand for Optical
Ethernet services and thereby grow their own businesses."
EFM OAM and auto-discovery management allows Metro Ethernet carriers to
revolutionize the optical Ethernet access network by making universal
broadband access a reality. The use of the OS9000 as Metro Ethernet
Aggregation and 802.3AH Optical Ethernet Demarcation devices eliminates the
need for IP addresses in each subscriber optical Ethernet CPE, as well as
making the Metro Ethernet services provisioning more simple and flexible
than ever using MPLS and VPLS with dynamic QoS allocation features in the
Metro Ethernet Aggregation. It reduces the installation CAPEX costs, the
maintenance expense (OPEX) and enables the provision of new video, voice
and data Metro Ethernet services more simple and faster than ever.
MRV's OS9000 offers enhanced optical Ethernet services for triple-play
voice, video and data networks. The Metro Ethernet aggregation series is
used to aggregate FTTX Optical Ethernet or DSLAM devices and provision
flow-based and application-aware QoS, security ACLs, bandwidth shaping, and
end-to-end multilayer operation, administration & management ("OAM")
features for remote service monitoring, alarm reporting and configuration
intelligence.
The OS9000 can enable Metro Ethernet Forum-specified point to point
E-Line and Multipoint E-LAN optical Ethernet services that provide services
tunneling and bandwidth profiles per application or subscriber.
When the E-LAN and E-Line functionality is combined with the OS9000's
optional WDM module, the system can carry multiple intelligent private
wavelength services and offer solid service level agreements ("SLAs")
across a metropolitan or long distance network.
The OS9000 Metro Ethernet series have small form factor and front
facing elements, designed to be scalable and are optimized for Optical
Ethernet POPs, MTU/MDU basements, street cabinets and telco central offices
where minimal utilization of rack space is critical. With a
"scale-as-you-grow design," the OS9000 offers cost-effective pricing and
lower total cost of Optical Ethernet operation.
The OS9000 Metro Ethernet series and the FiberDriver 802.3AH Optical
Ethernet Demarcation are generally available and installed in various Metro
Ethernet networks worldwide.
