PNI Begins Shipments of Platform1; Its High-speed, Intelligent, Modular Switch

ATLANTA, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Preferred Networks, Inc.
(OTC Bulletin Board: PFNT) (PNI), a developer and supplier of advanced
communications networking products and a leading provider of network services
to the wireless industry, today reported that it has begun shipments of
Platform1(TM), its high-speed, intelligent, modular switch.
Platform1(TM) utilizes PNI's patented call algorithm that routes T-1
circuits or individual telephone numbers to multiple servers and terminals at
extremely high speeds and on an as needed basis. This allows individual
numbers and circuits to be dynamically shared between servers, rather than
being dedicated to discrete service offerings as in traditional network
architectures. PNI's initial Platform1(TM) shipments will be integrated into
traditional switching environments, where they will enable the sharing of
previously dedicated circuits between legacy equipment, increasing capacity
utilization and reducing expansion costs.
PNI also plans to introduce software modules consisting of end-user
applications placed on server cards that will fit into slots in the
Platform1(TM) base unit. By integrating service applications directly into
the Platform1(TM) base unit, businesses will be able to replace their legacy
equipment and cost-effectively expand into remote points-of-presence or
"POPs". Messaging traffic can then be transported back to a company's central
location via the Internet, eliminating circuit distance as a cost
consideration. PNI's first such service modules will be introduced during the
third quarter and will provide one-way data and voice messaging, and email
notification. Additional modules to be introduced later in the year will
include text-to-speech, Domain Name Service for Internet service providers and
unified messaging. Future modules may include voice over IP (Internet
Protocol), two-way messaging and private networking solutions (such as
Intranets.)
Mark Dunaway, CEO of PNI, said, "The shipments of the first Platform1(TM)
units to customers mark a very significant milestone for PNI. Platform1(TM)
represents groundbreaking advances in switching speeds combined with operator
flexibility, reliability and cost-efficiency. Further, its modular design and
use of the Internet for transport provides a powerful platform for the
addition of feature-rich service modules and next generation applications."
Dunaway added, "Every Platform1(TM) base unit shipped is enabled to
incorporate multiple server cards, establishing an ongoing marketplace for our
future software introductions. We believe this product will have a profoundly
positive impact on companies as they seek to expand their service offerings
and reduce their costs."
This product now brings the number of PNI's new networking product
introductions since January 2000 to three: the Platform1(TM) modular switch,
the iTerminal(TM) desktop messaging terminal, and the iLink TNPP Internet
router. All of these networking products comply with the Communications
Assistance for Law Enforcement Act ("CALEA") statutes that are expected to
soon be applied to wireless messaging carriers by the U.S. Department of
Justice.
