TARRYTOWN, N.Y., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bayer Diagnostics announced today
its intention to join the Global Health Care Exchange, LLC, that is being
formed by five of the largest health care companies to streamline the
hospital-supply business. This announcement marks the first foray into an
e-Business enterprise for Bayer Diagnostics and follows the recent formation
of an e-Business group within the organization created to focus on the growing
importance of information technology within the health care system.
"The health care system is under significant pressure to create
efficiencies and reduce costs, and Bayer is committed to evaluating every
opportunity to enhance our ability to meet customer needs," commented Rolf
Classon, President of Bayer Diagnostics. "This venture provides a unique
opportunity for us to explore the potential of the Internet to allow us to
deliver innovative services to our customers aimed at reducing costs and
increasing productivity."
The recently announced Global Health Care Exchange, LLC, will help all
participants to streamline the health care supply-chain by simplifying
business processes and providing a single source for customers' health care
purchases. Leaders in the industry quote a study published in 1999 as part of
a report entitled "Improving the Efficiency of the Health Care Supply Chain,"
that estimated it costs $23 billion a year to distribute medical products.
An estimated $11 billion in cost savings can be achieved by streamlining of
operations and efficient sharing of information through advanced technology,
better inventory management and logistics. Efficient supply chains improve
not only the financial picture but the patient care picture as well.
