Ideal for Rugged Products Such as RFID Devices, Handheld Scanners,
Temperature Testing Devices and Global Positioning Systems
SAN FRANCISCO, Society for Information Display (SID) 2006, June 6
/PRNewswire/ -- NEC Electronics America, Inc., a leading supplier in the
Americas of innovative liquid crystal display (LCD) products for industrial
applications, today introduced four new amorphous-silicon, thin-film
transistor (TFT) LCD modules from NEC LCD Technologies, Ltd. at the Society
for Information Display (SID) 2006 Symposium, June 4-9, at the Moscone
Convention Center in San Francisco in booth (#718). As diverse,
industrial-type mobile display products have been introduced to the market,
the demand for small-size LCDs with feature sets that are more robust and
diversified than typical consumer LCDs has increased. NEC Electronics
America's newest industrial-grade mobile display modules, ranging in size
from 2.7 to 4.3 inches, feature increased brightness levels with high
contrast, making them ideal for mobile devices that need to operate in a
wide range of viewing environments and applications.
"Our vast design and manufacturing resources and our dedicated focus on
the industrial display market allow us to deliver application-ready
solutions for rugged mobile devices," said Dr. Shigehiko Satoh, associate
vice president and general manager, displays strategic business unit, NEC
Electronics America. "The new LCD panels being introduced today offer a
range of features required by today's industrial mobile applications,
including low power consumption, high brightness levels and high contrast
ratios."
The main features of the new products follow:
Model No. NL2432HC17-02A: 2.7-Inch (6.8-Centimeters-Diagonal) QVGA TFT
LCD
This LCD realizes low power consumption of 200 milliwatts (mW) and has
three light-emitting diode (LED) backlights that provide a high brightness
level of 200 candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) and a high contrast ratio
of 400:1-very high for color TFT LCD modules designed for mobile terminal
use. The NL2432HC17-02A has a fast response time of 23 milliseconds (ms)
and is optimized for landscape viewing with portrait scanning. NEC
Electronics America also offers this display with an integrated touch panel
(NL2432HC17-02B).
Model No. NL2432HC22-37B: 3.5-Inch (8.9-Centimeters-Diagonal) QVGA TFT
LCD
This module achieves a high brightness level of 350 cd/m2, the highest
among color TFT LCD modules designed for mobile terminal use. It also has a
high contrast ratio of 300:1, a response time of 23 ms and low power
consumption of 320 mW. An integrated touch panel eliminates the need for a
separate keypad and reduces the number of additional components that need
to be designed in, resulting in reduced development costs and lead times
for designers working with mobile terminal applications such as
multi-function, industrial-type personal digital assistants (PDAs).
Model No. NL2432HC22-40A: 3.5-Inch (8.9-Centimeters-Diagonal) QVGA TFT
LCD
This panel is based on NEC LCD Technologies' optimized super-reflective
natural light (SR-NLT) technology and realizes high luminance of 220 cd/m2,
a high reflective ratio of 15 percent and backlight power consumption of
384 mW, equivalent to that of conventional products. High contrast ratios
of 150:1 in transmissive mode and 15:1 in reflective mode contribute to a
bright and clear display in any kind of ambient light. Compared to
conventional products, this module is approximately 10 percent lighter in
weight, despite the addition of a timing controller and a DC-DC converter.
Consequently, this module offers a range of benefits in terms of
development cost, lead time and portable device miniaturization. Target
applications include global positioning systems (GPS), portable meter
reading equipment, barcode scanners, radio frequency identification (RFID)
devices and other portable handheld equipment used in indoor and outdoor
settings.
Model No. NL4827HC19-01B: 4.3-Inch (10.9-Centimeters-Diagonal) WQVGA
TFT LCD
With an aspect ratio of 16:9, high luminance of 350 cd/m2, contrast
ratio of 300:1 and response time of 25 ms, this new LCD is ideally suited
for portable display terminals such as GPS that often require larger
screens with higher resolutions, higher aspect ratios and faster response
times. Like the NL2432HC22-37B, this module features an integrated touch
panel that enables designers to reduce development costs and lead times for
manufacturers of mobile terminals.
