Four New Transflective Products Ideal for Environments with High Ambient
Light
SAN FRANCISCO, Society for Information Display (SID) Symposium, June 6
/PRNewswire/ -- Today, NEC Electronics America, Inc., a leading supplier of
innovative liquid crystal display (LCD) products for industrial
applications, announced it has expanded its industrial display portfolio of
transflective thin-film transistor (TFT) LCDs to include four new
super-transmissive natural light technology (ST-NLT) modules. With the
addition of these new modules, NEC Electronics America now offers
transflective products ranging in size from 5.5 to 15 inches. Well-suited
to environments with high ambient light, the new LCD modules can be used in
products such as ruggedized laptop PCs, fish finders, navigation systems,
automatic teller machines (ATMs) and kiosks. A total of six transflective
modules, including the four new products, will be on display in the
company's booth (#718) at SID 2006, demonstrating the company's continued
commitment to providing innovative LCD solutions for the industrial market.
"NEC Electronics America continues to distinguish itself as a leader in
the industrial TFT- LCD module market, providing reliable, high-quality
products and advanced display technologies that will enable the development
of next-generation LCDs," said Shigehiko Satoh, Ph.D., associate vice
president and general manager, display strategic business unit, NEC
Electronics America. "The new products have been optimized to meet the
industry's growing demand for high-performance display modules that can
operate in a wide range of challenging viewing and temperature
environments."
ST-NLT Technologies
NEC Electronics America is one of the few LCD module suppliers to offer
transflective displays in a variety of resolutions and in sizes ranging
from 5.5 to 15.0 inches (exclusive of its mobile LCD modules). NEC LCD
Technologies' super-transmissive natural light technology (ST-NLT) provides
high-contrast images in a wide color reproduction range for applications
that operate in both indoor and outdoor environments. The technology uses a
high-luminance backlight as a light source and minimizes the surface
reflection of outdoor light. NEC Electronics America is announcing four new
products ranging from 8.4 to 15.0 inches in this category. The new LCD
modules feature wide viewing film, with horizontal viewing angles of 80/80
and vertical viewing angles of 80/60, an extended temperature rating up to
-20 to 70 degrees Celsius, and a total response time of 25 milliseconds
(ms). Among this group is the largest LCD module to incorporate NEC LCD
Technologies' ST-NLT technology -- a 15-inch transflective module with an
18 ms response time, one of the largest transflective displays offered by
any TFT-LCD manufacturer.
