Quintiles Asia Pacific Receives Frost & Sullivan Awards

Multinational Clinical Trials Service Provider of the Year and
                       Multinational CRO of the Year

    RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiles
Transnational Corp. today announced that its Quintiles East Asia subsidiary
has been named the Asia Pacific region's Multinational Clinical Trials
Service Provider of the Year and Multinational CRO of the Year by the
consulting firm Frost & Sullivan.
Frost & Sullivan presents the awards to companies that demonstrate
"best practices in their industry, commending the diligence, commitment and
innovative business strategies required to advance in the global
marketplace."
Anand Tharmaratnam, M.D., CEO of Quintiles East Asia and Head of Asia
Pacific Clinical Development, accepted the Multinational CRO of the Year
award. Michael Stibilj, Executive Director of Southeast Asia Clinical
Development, accepted the Multinational Clinical Trials Service Provider of
the Year award.
"We owe this award to the vision of our founder, Dennis Gillings, who
pioneered the CRO industry in Asia Pacific during the early and mid-1990s,
and to our team of dedicated professionals who have used their expertise to
create best-in-class service," Tharmaratnam said. "We also have been
fortunate to work with government institutions, including the Singapore
Economic Development Board, that have created a climate ideal for drug
development."
Last year, Quintiles started 76 new clinical trials and has a total of
more than 200 ongoing in the Asia Pacific region. The company also opened
new offices in Vietnam and Indonesia, in addition to existing offices in
Australia, New Zealand, China, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore,
Taiwan and Thailand. The company has about 320 regular clinical research
employees in the region.
Stibilj said the area is ideal for clinical research. "It has the right
mix of excellent hospital infrastructure, highly motivated investigators, a
stable regulatory environment and a broad spectrum of diseases common in
the developing and developed world," he said. "Our customers recognize that
our people and solutions make Quintiles the leader in Asia Pacific and the
world as well."
Frost & Sullivan selects the award winners using rigorous measurement-
based methodologies. The awards were presented at a Frost & Sullivan Asia
Pacific Healthcare Best Practice Awards banquet in Singapore.
