PORTLAND, Ore., June 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Willamette Industries, Inc.
(NYSE: WLL) has announced plans to acquire Darbo S.A., a private French
company with a modern particleboard plant in Linxe, France. The acquisition
is expected to close later in June.
The facility produces 250,000 cubic meters of particleboard annually.
Willamette is currently contemplating capital improvement projects that would
bring the plant's capacity to 470,000 cubic meters at modest capital cost.
The Darbo facility is located near Willamette's medium density fiberboard
plant in Morcenx. Darbo produces standard, moisture resistant and melamine
laminated particleboard for domestic and export markets.
According to Willamette's Chief Executive Officer, Duane McDougall, the
Darbo brand name enjoys strong European acceptance for quality. "It will be
an excellent addition to our European marketing efforts, broadening our
customer base and increasing our product range."
Willamette Industries is an integrated forest products company with 100

million acres of forestland in the U.S. and manages it sustainably to produce
building materials, composite wood panels, fine paper, office paper products,
corrugated packaging and grocery bags.
