Federal Government Now Has One-Stop Shopping Option for MRO Supplies
CHICAGO, June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The General Services Administration (GSA),
one of three central management agencies in the Federal Government, recently
awarded a five-year, multiple award schedule contract to Grainger Industrial
Supply, a division of W.W. Grainger, Inc. (NYSE: GWW). Grainger Industrial
Supply is the leading North American distributor of maintenance, repair, and
operating (MRO) supplies and services to businesses and institutions.
Grainger Industrial Supply is the recipient of one of the first GSA
multiple award schedule contracts for a general distributor. As such, this
contract will provide government agencies throughout the U.S. a complete MRO
product line through Grainger Industrial Supply's extended supply network,
which offers access to more than 560,000 products and replacement parts.
Purchases and product inquiries can be made at any of 364 branches located
throughout the country, or via the Internet at Grainger.com.
The contract also signifies the first time that government agencies can
use a credit card to receive contract product discounts at the point of sale.
"The contract will simplify the purchasing process for all federal
government agencies," said Larry Schroyer, Director of Hardware and Appliances
Center for GSA. "Grainger Industrial Supply's inventory management expertise
and just-in-time delivery will provide real cost savings by consolidating our
supplier base, eliminating redistribution, and providing government purchasers
time-saving conveniences."
"We are pleased that GSA has made Grainger Industrial Supply a preferred
supplier by awarding us this contract," said Wes Clark, Group President,
Grainger. "As a one-stop shopping option for government purchasing managers,
we expect this contract to be an effective tool for all government agencies to
procure MRO supplies more efficiently."
Since 1949, GSA has housed federal workers and provided products and
services to support the important work of government throughout the country.
GSA does this by negotiating contracts that account for $40 billion of goods
and services bought annually from the private sector. GSA employs about
15,000 people and has an annual budget of nearly $13 billion.
