     When: 6 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., TUESDAY JUNE 8th
What: The first test of "American Candidate" is building a large crowd

              6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to be counted.

The upcoming Showtime political reality television show will do it's first
filming in Seattle on Tuesday where Northwest native Lisa Witter will kick-off
her campaign by holding a rally. She was given the assignment with 32 hours
to plan and $100 to spend. Lisa beat out thousands of initial applicants and
make it this far.
"This is a great opportunity to get out a progressive message, inspire new
voters and have fun," Witter, 30, said. "Too often, politics seems
unapproachable to people, and this is a way for someone from a working-class
background to show that it's not just all about stuffy men in dark suits with
big checkbooks."
Witter, originally from Everett, Washington, worked in Seattle for
prominent groups such as the Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce, Leadership
Tomorrow and leaders such as Seattle City Council President Peter Steinbreuck.
Currently, Lisa runs the country's largest public interest strategy and media
firm, Fenton Communications, with offices in New York City, San Francisco and
Washington, D.C. Lisa advises organizations and ventures like MoveOn.org, the
American Lung Association, the "new" Air America Radio station featuring Al
Franken, and the Polly Klaas Foundation.
"My campaign is not only about empowering people, but about all of the
issues that progressives care about -- affordable health care for all,
improving the economy, fair taxes, strengthening education, protecting our
environment," Witter said. "For too long, there have been two Americas.
There's an America -- the city on the hill -- where the sun always shines and
the tax breaks keep on coming for those who don't need it. The other America
is a very different place -- an America where our sons and daughters are in
harms way in Iraq...an America where families are out of work...an America
with 44 million of our people without health care. I believe it's time for a
new direction. I believe that it's time that we have One America -- A fair
America."
"We learned about basic principles of fairness at very early age -- at
home -- in school -- at the playground. And, we are deeply offended by those
that don't play by the rules. In One America, the rules work for everyone, not
just the rich and powerful. In One America, our values aren't for sale. In One
America, the American dream is available for all," Witter said.
Lisa Witter's been raring to go from the moment her mom went into labor on
the 4th of July at a demolition derby near her blue-collar town of Everett,
Washington. She naturally shared her family's love for fast cars and monster
trucks, but her passion for politics was all her own.
When Lisa's parents were asked where she got her interest in politics her
mother Linda Witter replied, "It must have come from all her sports
concussions because it didn't surely didn't come from us. We're proud of her
values and patriotism -- we taught Lisa and her brother to be compassionate
and hard-working citizens."
Lisa's resume includes managing the campaign for Washington's first Latina
woman to run for statewide office. She was named a 'Rising Star' by the
Washington State Democrats for co-founding the Institute for a Democratic
Future, an organization that develops and promotes emerging generations of
Democratic leaders. Lisa was also named a Fearless Leader by Oxygen.com and is
a co-founder of EMERGE: Women Leaders for a Democratic Future.
AMERICAN CANDIDATE will attempt to identify one individual who has the
qualifications and qualities to be President of the United States. Over the
course of 10 weeks, 12 candidates will face-off against each other in a series
of challenges designed to test their presidential mettle. Made by R.J. Cutler,
the Producer of the War Room, the original pool of candidates will be winnowed
down weekly. More information can be found at
