Shanghai Fine Chemical Industry Development Promotion Center Unveiled in Shanghai Jinshan District

    SHANGHAI, China, June 8 /Xinhua-PRNewswire/ -- Shanghai Jinshan District
Government announced today that the unveiling ceremony of the Shanghai Fine
Chemical Industry Development Promotion Center, to be based in the Jinshan
district's Second Industrial Zone, was held today.  Subsequently, the Jinshan
government signed cooperative agreements with East China University of Science
and Technology, Shanghai University of Engineering Science and Shanghai Huayi
(Group) Co. to integrate production, study and research.  The management
committee of Jinshan's Second Industrial Zone also signed cooperative
investment projects with the Shanghai Institute of Chemical Industry, the
Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry and
Shanghai Jinshan Chemical Incubator Co., Ltd. regarding the organization of
production, study and research.  These events are meant to symbolize that the
aforementioned entities have established a base in Jinshan to pursue and
develop original research.
    Jinshan district has made its Second Industrial Zone, with a planned land
area of 10.78 square kilometers, a major base for fine chemical development,
focusing mainly on fine chemical products that are high value and with large
market potential, such as catalysts, solubilizing agents, food additives,
electronic chemicals, paper chemicals and bio chemicals.
    After two years of development and construction, the infrastructure
facilities in Jinshan's Second Industrial Zone have been improving
continuously.  Now, it can completely satisfy the comprehensive production
requirements of fine chemical companies.  The Second Industrial Zone has been
making efforts to strengthen its presence in order to attract more companies,
capital and projects.  A total of 83 domestic and international projects have
landed in the Jinshan's Second Industrial Zone, including the Shanghai
Institute of Chemical Industry, Shanghai Huayi (Group) Co., Henkel from
Germany, Albemarle Corporation from the USA and Shanghai Styrene which
generate a total investment of RMB4.27 billion.  At the same time, the
industrial incubator inside the Second Industrial Zone is accelerating
construction.  By 2010, Jinshan's Second Industrial Zone will be built into an
environment-friendly, fine industrial park with its own characteristics and
its investment scale, capable of an annual output of RMB30-35 billion.

    About Jinshan District
    Jinshan, one of the 19 districts (counties) of Shanghai, is located in the
southwest of the city, north of the Hangzhou Bay and west of Zhejiang
Province.  It is situated at the hub of the economic region linking Shanghai,
Hangzhou and Ningbo, and is inside the geographic ring of the Yangtze River
Delta that is only a two hours drive away.
    Jinshan District has a total land area of 586 square kilometers (about 226
square miles), equivalent to that of Singapore, and a population of 550,000.
It has rich natural and cultural heritages, including beautiful beach lines,
famous traditional peasant paintings, black ceramic arts and crafts, and a
world-renowned petrochemical base.
