DALLAS, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Worldwide Flight Services, Inc., a leading
independent provider of quality aviation services, announced that it recently
won a contract to provide its services at Vancouver International Airport.
The Vancouver announcement highlights the fast-paced growth for the company in
Canada. Worldwide now serves eight Canadian airports and has nearly doubled
its business in the country over the past 12 months.
Worldwide's first Vancouver customer is WestJet Airlines. Since the
founding of the airline in 1994, WestJet has experienced unprecedented growth
and has been successful in expanding its geographical scope.
"The addition of Vancouver International Airport, which was ranked the
No. 5 airport in the world by the International Air Transport Association
(IATA) in 1999, is a significant step in Worldwide's overall global growth
strategy," said Pete Pappas, chairman & CEO of Worldwide.
"We are thrilled to be selected by the Vancouver International Airport
Authority and WestJet Airlines because it serves as an endorsement of
Worldwide's ability to develop a quality global service network for our
customers," Pappas said.
Dale Tinevez, WestJet Airlines director of front line services, said it
was a natural choice for his company to sign on with Worldwide in Vancouver.
"This is the fourth station where Worldwide Flight Services is our service
provider," said Tinevez. "They do an outstanding job for us and we believe
they are helping us to grow our business throughout Canada."
Larry Shack, former general manager for Worldwide's Vail, Colorado
station, will serve as the new general manager in Vancouver. Shack has been
in the aviation industry for 20 years.
"We already have a great team in place in Vancouver," said Shack. "Our
start-up team includes many seasoned professionals from other Worldwide
stations who will help to train new employees and ensure customers receive
excellent service from day one."
The company anticipates employing more than 100 people in the first year
of operation at Vancouver.
