CAMBRIDGE, Mass., June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Biopure Corporation
(Nasdaq: BPUR) today announced that it has sent an open letter to the
editors of the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). The
letter asks for a retraction of the meta-analysis and the accompanying
editorial that appeared on line on April 28, 2008 and in the later print
edition, as well as an apology to the hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier
(HBOC) field. The letter and Biopure's analysis have been posted at
http://www.biopure.com.
"Considering the publicity that's been generated by both the authors of
the analysis and JAMA itself, we've taken the unusual step of sending an
open letter addressing the fallacy of this study and the impact of its
publication by JAMA," said Zafiris G. Zafirelis, Biopure CEO.
