Raytheon Awarded $5.7 Million for Advanced Data Link Pods

RESTON, Va., June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) has been
awarded a $5.7 million contract by Boeing to produce the AN/AWW-13 Advanced
Data Link Pod for delivery to Korea. Boeing was recently awarded a contract by
the Republic of Korea for 40 F-15K aircraft and associated weapons and
support. The AN/AWW-13 Pod was designed for use with the Boeing Standoff Land
Attack Missile-Expanded Response (SLAM-ER) weapon, one of the weapons included
in the Boeing effort. This is the first foreign sale of the pod.
Under the 20-month contract, Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC
(RTSC) will qualify the AN/AWW-13 Pod to be carried by the F-15K aircraft and
deliver five pods. Work will be performed in Indianapolis.
"Raytheon is proud of the successful performance history of its AN/AWW-13
Advanced Data Link Pod," stated Bryan J. Even, a vice president of Raytheon
Company and president of Raytheon Technical Services Company LLC. "This pod
has proven its ability to provide U.S. Navy air crews with critical
information for missile targeting in battle situations. The midcourse update
capability achieved via the pod enables the SLAM-ER Missile to be a true
precision weapon. RTSC's Indianapolis facility has a long history with the
AN/AWW-13 Pod, and we are pleased to provide the capabilities of this advanced
data link pod to the Korean Air Force."
The AN/AWW-13 Advanced Data Link Pod allows the weapons-control operator
to select an impact aim point for the missile and communicate that information
to the missile. It also receives seeker video images from the missile's data
link transmitter and displays them on the cockpit video display. Use of the
AN/AWW-13 Pod's data link provides the operator with man-in-the-loop control
and allows him to send midcourse updates to the SLAM-ER missile. The pod is
currently qualified to be flown on the U.S. Navy's F/A-18, S-3B and P-3
aircraft.
The SLAM-ER missile was developed by Boeing to address the U.S. Navy's
requirement for a precision-guided standoff, outside-of-area defense weapon.
SLAM-ER extends the weapon system's combat effectiveness, providing an
effective, long-range, precision-strike option for both pre-planned and
target-of-opportunity attack missions against land and ship targets.
