TOKYO, April 12 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Gateway, Inc. (NYSE: GTW) today
announced its spring line-up of eMachines desktop and notebook PCs, its
leading global brand of high-value PCs, notebooks and monitors sold through
retail stores, for Japan.
The products are available exclusively through TSUKUMO Co. Ltd., one of
Japan's pioneering electronics retailers, and its partner Ishimaru Denki, a
leading Japanese home appliance retailer. Highlights from the latest
eMachines desktop PCs include:
* 8-in-1 Media Reader throughout desktop line for optimum flexibility in
downloading digital audio and video from a wide range of media devices
* DVD/CDRW combo drive and 256MB DDR memory available for the first time
in the 49,800 yen entry-level model (J2704) and with Microsoft(R)
Windows(R) XP Professional entry-level model (J2705) at 57,800 yen
* Dual-format DVD-RW now available in the step-up model (J2820) for
59,800 yen
* Intel(R) Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with Hyper-Threading Technology desktop PC
for 99,800 yen (J4320)
* Premium chassis design throughout the line
Gateway continues to expand the eMachines line of widescreen notebooks
with systems featuring the Intel Celeron(R) and Pentium(R) 4 processors and
the Mobile AMD XP processor. All notebooks feature a 15.4-inch LCD display
with a 16:10 aspect ratio, similar to a widescreen television format, which
offers users up to 30 percent more of the original picture area of a DVD than
a standard 15-inch notebook screen.
In addition, the top two notebooks in the spring line (M5315 and M6414)
incorporate the 54g wireless chipset from Broadcom(R), providing up to five
times the performance of 802.11b while maintain dual-format DVD-RW drives.

The eMachines premium chassis design is now available throughout the
desktop PC line and features resilient soft black powdered coating, silver
panel, and metal-stamped 'e' logo power button with blue LED 'halo.'
The 8-in-1 Media Reader on the front panels of the desktop PCs offers
compatibility with all major digital storage technologies, including Secure
Digital, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Micro Drive,
Multimedia Card, Smart Media, and USB 2.0 mini-flash drives. The M6414
widescreen notebook offers a 6-in-1 Media Reader featuring the first six
storage technologies mentioned above.
The three lowest priced desktop PCs incorporate the Intel Extreme(TM)
Graphics 3D chip set, providing users with up to 20 percent performance gains
over other chip sets for 3D games and other graphics-intensive applications.
