SAN DIEGO, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Biotechnology Industry Organization
is hosting the industry's largest lineup of presenting companies at the Third
Annual International Investor & Partnering Forum during the BIO 2001 meeting
in San Diego. The event offers investors and potential corporate partners a
chance to learn about exciting new companies developing products in
healthcare, agricultural, industrial and environmental biotechnology.
More than 230 companies will describe their technologies, products and
business plans. Each will give a 15-minute presentation and will then adjourn
for a breakout session with audience members who would like to hear more.
Presentations are grouped by category to make it more efficient to learn about
companies in specific areas. In addition to the presentations, more than
1,000 individual partnership meetings between companies have been scheduled.
"The Investor & Partnering Forum will provide an opportunity to evaluate
early-stage companies with promising new technologies and products, as well as
a closer look at mid- and late-stage companies that have products in advanced
testing," said Morrie Ruffin, BIO's vice president for business development
and emerging companies. About half the presenting companies are privately
held and half are publicly traded.
The forum will take place at the Sails Pavilion, San Diego Convention
Center, from Monday, June 25, through Wednesday, June 27.
Sixteen countries are represented, and more than 80 of the companies hail
from outside the U.S., including 25 from Canada; 21 from Germany; 10 each from
France and the U.K.; four each from Australia and Switzerland; two each from
Finland, the Netherlands and Sweden; and one each from Austria, Belgium,
Denmark, Israel, Japan (MedGene, the forum's first-ever Japanese presenter),
and Taiwan.
