reports the following monthly activity for the period ended May 31, 2002:
* Total trades per day averaged 93,300. This is a 6% decrease from April
2002, and 21% lower than May 2001.
* Total customer assets were $138 billion as of May 31, 2002, up 1% from
April 2002 and a 1% decrease from May 2001.
* New accounts opened totaled 32,200. This is a 42% decrease from April
2002 and 12% lower than May 2001.
* Margin loans were $3.7 billion at May 31, 2002, a 5% decrease from a
month earlier and a decrease of 18% from May 31, 2001.
* In the early part of June 2002, the firm has experienced a 2% increase
in trades per day activity from the previous month's average.
