Wireless Links Designed to Support Cable Operator Commercial Services
HICKORY, N.C., June 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- CommScope, Inc.
(NYSE: CTV), a world leader in cable and connectivity solutions, today
introduced its new AirBridge(TM) Wireless Plant Extension product designed to
enable the deployment of carrier-grade business services to areas where
multiple system operator (MSO) service is not currently available. The product
consists of a radio system that can transmit a data channel to a receiver to
deliver cable modem or other services to subscribers within transmitter range.
Zoning restrictions, right of way challenges or other delays associated
with installing new coaxial or fiber optic cables are some of the situations
MSOs face today in accessing commercial areas. CommScope believes the
AirBridge system will be well received because of its system transparency as
well as its ability to facilitate many services including DOCSIS(R) cable
modem links and VoIP to business customers. It has already been selected as a
finalist in Communication Technology Magazine's "Reader's Choice" Awards. The
winner of this annual contest will be named at the conclusion of the Society
of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) Cable-Tec Expo(R), which is
taking place in San Antonio, TX on June 14-17, 2005. Customers are invited to
visit CommScope's booth #4075 at the Expo to view the AirBridge system for
themselves.
"This wireless system operates as a virtual plant extension, allowing the
operator to reach multiple commercial accounts with data or other business
services," said Brian Riley, Vice President of Global Broadband Marketing at
CommScope. "This innovative solution is designed to be attached to existing
cable systems, making it extremely craft-friendly and easy to install. Also,
since it is transparent to the service it carries, the AirBridge solution
doesn't require changes to an MSO's current provisioning and management
systems."
"AirBridge wireless plant extensions offer an attractive option for MSOs
looking to expand their commercial customer base," said Mark Alrutz, Director
of Technical Services Broadband, CommScope. "This product offers cost
effective and rapid broadband activation for many small-to-medium-sized
businesses."
