Safe, Rapid Restoration of Power Is the Company's Single Focus
TAMPA, Fla., June 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tampa Electric this
morning reported that as of its regularly scheduled 6:45 a.m. report to the
State Emergency Operations Center, 5,200 customers were without power
following Tropical Storm Alberto, more than 4,000 of which were in
Hillsborough County and more than 1,000 of which were in Polk County, with
minimal outage activity in the Pasco and Pinellas parts of the company's
service territory.
Since that update, the company has successfully reduced the number of
outages by half -- approximately 2,500 customers were without power at 8:30
a.m. While storm activity related to Alberto continues, the company expects
to restore all related outages today.
Vice President-Energy Delivery Bill Whale said, "We experienced
sporadic outage activity throughout the evening and throughout our service
territory. Our crews worked throughout the night and today continue their
work to restore power to our customers as safely and quickly as possible."
Tampa Electric is working to restore power with its own team members,
and has not requested assistance from other utilities for this storm, which
Whale likened to a heavy summer thunderstorm.
