Third Annual Conference Offers an Effective Platform for Collaboration and
Commercialization of Nanotechnology
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- SEMI today announced details
for the third annual SEMI NanoForum, scheduled for October 31-November 2,
2006 at the Marriott in San Jose, California. Pre-conference events,
including SEMI Nano University (Nano U) and the SEMI/IEEE Nano Standards
Workshop will be held October 31, with the executive conference November
1-2.
SEMI NanoForum brings executives across four major industrial markets
including Bio/Pharma, Energy, Defense/Aerospace and Electronics/Displays
together with the SEMI membership (semiconductor and nano manufacturing and
materials community), to build awareness of existing capabilities and near-
term innovations that can help speed commercialization of nano-enabled
products across industries. Nanotechnology is forecasted to contribute $2.6
trillion of manufactured goods globally in 2015, and the production of
these goods will require nano materials, metrology and manufacturing
equipment, which will be supplied by SEMI members.

The SEMI NanoForum, agenda is designed to accelerate nanotechnology
commercialization by facilitating relationships with business, technology
and manufacturing experts across industries. Conference sessions include:

* NanoEnergy: Powering the Future
* Nanotechnology: The New Era of Defense
* Nanoelectronics: The Era Beyond CMOS.
Sessions feature presentations by experts who will provide their
perspectives on the status of nanotech commercialization and applications,
the most promising near-term market opportunities, nano metrology,
materials and manufacturing capabilities, innovations and visionary
applications.
Pre-conference activities begin on October 31 and include a full day
Nano U, designed to educate business executives on the leading nano
research efforts at universities, and encourage partnerships to minimize
duplication of efforts and improve time to commercialization. Nano U begins
with an overview of university nanotech research programs, followed by
detailed presentations from five leading universities including Rice
University, Stanford University, UC Berkeley, UCLA (invited) and UCSD. Also
on October 31, SEMI and IEEE will host a half-day Nano Standards Workshop
to help guide the development of nano standards that are most critical to
near-term commercialization, and provide an overview of the Nanoelectronics
Standards Roadmap.
