WILKES-BARRE, Pa., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Keystone Pipeline Services,
Inc. has been awarded a multi-million dollar contract to provide vacuum
excavation and pipeline repair and maintenance services in Consolidated Edison
Company of New York, Inc.'s (Con Edison) natural gas service areas in the New
York City boroughs of the Bronx and Queens.
The two-year contract begins July 1 and has a third-year option. It is the
second multi-million dollar contract awarded to Keystone by a major natural
gas utility in the last six weeks.
In early May, Keystone announced that it had been awarded a contract to
provide main and service line installation services in Virginia Natural Gas
Inc.'s Hanover County and Norfolk-Chesapeake service areas.
"We're back in New York City, this time in the Bronx and Queens," said
George J. Green, Keystone's Vice President. He said the company, when it
formerly operated as Ford, Bacon & Davis Sealants Inc., provided services to
Con Edison in other areas of New York City.
"We're flattered to again be working for Con Edison, a utility industry
leader and the company that supplies energy to the city that never sleeps,"
Mr. Green said.
Mr. Green said Keystone crews working from the Company's operations office
in Middlefield, Conn., and three two-person crews that will be hired will be
employed by the Con Edison contract. He said a Keystone field office in the
Bronx will be used to store equipment and supplies.
Vacuum excavation is one of the specialty services Keystone offers to the
utility and pipeline industries. Using high-powered vacuum equipment, Keystone
crews can access underground utility lines. The technique minimizes the use of
jackhammers and pavement damage and eliminates the expense and traffic
disruptions that can be caused by backhoes or excavators.
Keystone crews also will make repairs and perform corrosion control work
on Con Edison's distribution system in the Bronx and Queens.
Keystone is a 35-year-old company that specializes in installing and
maintaining water and natural gas pipelines and cable conduits. It recently
expanded its list of specialty services to include the installation of fiber
optic cable.
