COLUMBIA, Md., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- GSE Systems, Inc. (Amex: GVP), a
leading global provider of process control solutions and real time simulation,
today announced that its recently released version 3.0 of VPbatch(TM) software
is helping customers save money. VPbatch is the Windows version of the
well-received GSE Systems FlexBatch(R) software, available on OpenVMS since
1996, used for the automation of batch process plants worldwide.
GE Plastics, a business unit of General Electric Company, located in
Bergen Op Zoom, Netherlands implemented VPbatch and the TotalVision(TM)
graphical interface on its FCP Packaging line. The new software provides a
better, more uniform view into the operation of the production process. "The
packaging system is now eleven years old. Until recently, implementing
changes was difficult and very costly. With VPbatch, a batch application
added to the control system, the production process can be set up more
flexibly and changes are much easier to implement. With this system,
Packaging can package at least four percent more product," said Etienne
Timmermans, Senior Process Automation Technician at GE Plastics.
This new release, first made available to customers in 2000, is currently
utilized in batch plants in Europe and the United States. VPbatch, designed
in accordance with the ISA-S88.01 Standard for Batch Control, fully integrates
recipe management with the manufacturing process. "Customers are reducing
batch cycle times and improving yields with VPbatch, thereby increasing plant
production and profits," said Dion Freedman, Vice President of GSE Process
Solutions, Inc.
In addition to providing operators and engineers with common Windows
desktop functionality, VPbatch configuration and production information is
stored in Microsoft's SQL Server 7.0 database and is readily available to
Microsoft Office applications and plant or corporate information systems.
GSE continues to preserve its customers' investment in application
software by providing a database conversion utility to convert existing
OpenVMS FlexBatch databases to VPbatch. Customers are able to switch
operation from FlexBatch to VPbatch in a thirty-minute window without
compromising or rewriting existing applications software.
