Secant Technologies Joins Rational RoseLink Partner Program

Partnership Creates Total Database and Multi-Tier Application Solution For
                             Rational Rose Users

    CUPERTINO, Calif., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Rational(R) Software
Corporation and Secant Technologies today announced that Secant, provider of
advanced software technology for building multi-tier applications, has joined
Rational's RoseLink Partner Program. The resulting partnership combines the
application server and database mapping excellence of Secant Extreme(TM) with
Rational Rose(R) 98, the industry-leading visual modeling tool.
Rose Secant Extreme Link, the integrating technology that joins Rational
Rose 98 with the Secant Extreme family of products, can be used to create a
complete object-to-database mapping solution, or to create a complete
multi-tier, CORBA-based application.
"Rational is pleased to partner with Secant Technologies," said
Kevin Kernan, vice president of partner marketing for Rational Software. "By
combining Rose 98's visual modeling facilities with Secant Extreme's powerful
application server and mapping technology, developers have a world-class,
CORBA-based technology combination for creating today's most demanding
business systems."

    Database Mapping
Rose Secant Extreme Link, in conjunction with Secant Extreme Enterprise
Server or Secant Extreme Persistence, provides developers with a ready-made
solution for automatically generating the complete set of code necessary to
create, retrieve and update Java and C++ objects and their relationships
against a relational or object-relational database. The result allows
developers to focus on writing application business logic rather than complex,
error-prone database mapping code, increasing developer productivity and
reducing development time.
"The synergy created by this partnership significantly reduces the
barriers hampering widespread development of enterprise-scale, multi-tier
systems," said Kenneth S. Rubin, chief operating officer of Secant
Technologies. "With Rose 98 at the front end of Secant Extreme, there now
exists a simple-to-use environment that enables more developers to get into
the game of creating robust multi-tier systems."

    Multi-Tier Application Development
Developers can use Rose 98 with Rose Secant Extreme Link to provide a
simple way to rapidly define, organize and partition the various components
that form multi-tier, CORBA-based systems. With the push of a button in Rose
98, all of the code (except application-specific business logic) for the
multi-tier system will be generated automatically in the desired language
(e.g., C++ or Java) and for the proper component model (e.g., JavaBeans,
Enterprise JavaBeans, and CORBA). The resulting code may then be deployed on
Secant Extreme Enterprise Server, integrating state-of-the-art
object-to-database mapping excellence with superior implementations of
standard CORBA services such as transactions, security, events, concurrency
and locking.
The result is a robust and scalable Java and C++ application server
environment in which reusable business objects generated from Rose 98 operate
in an inherently persistent and distributed-transactional manner. Coupled
with Secant's high-performance architecture, a mixture of thousands of Java
applets, Java applications and C++ applications simultaneously can reuse the
server-resident business objects.

    RoseLink Program
