Raytheon Awarded Contract For New Marine Corps Aviation Command And Control System With a Potential Value of $160 Million

PORTSMOUTH, R.I., June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN)
has received a Marine Corps contract worth potentially $160 million dollars
for the next generation Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S).
CAC2S will provide a common set of hardware and software that will replace
the Marine Corps' current Tactical Air Command Center, Tactical Air Operations
Center, Direct Air Support Center, Low Altitude Air Defense Battalion, and
Marine Air Traffic Control System functions. The system also incorporates new
technologies for conducting combat identification and theater ballistic
missile defense.
"This is an important award for Raytheon and our customer," said Dan
Smith, vice president and general manager of Raytheon's Naval & Maritime
Integrated Systems (N&MIS) business unit. "The CAC2S will provide joint
interoperability and integrated systems capability for the Marine Corps with
significantly reduced operating and total ownership costs."
Teamed with N&MIS on the contract are Motorola, Inc. (software development
and communications); Sensis Corporation (sensor integration); Kongsberg
Defence & Aerospace (air defense software for threat evaluation and weapons
analysis and weapons assignment); Gallium Software, Inc. (Human Machine
Interface); and DHS Systems Inc. (infrastructure).
Smith noted that Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace was recently awarded a
contract to provide launchers, missiles, and associated software for the
Complementary Low Altitude Weapons System (CLAWS). "This connection will
provide exceptional commonality between CAC2S and CLAWS," Smith said.
The first award is a Cost Plus Fixed Fee contract of just under $5 million
for the program development risk reduction phase. Principal design activity
will occur at N&MIS' Expeditionary Warfare Center in San Diego, Calif., and
Raytheon's Command Control Communication and Information (C3I) Systems
business will provide production capability for CAC2S in Texas.
N&MIS is a premier supplier of integrated naval systems worldwide and has
operations in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, California, Hawaii and Washington
in the U.S., as well as in Australia.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) is a
global technology leader in defense, government and commercial electronics,
and business and special mission aircraft.
