Companies to begin technical analysis of porting award-winning Moxi(TM)
software and services to Motorola's advanced digital set-top platform
SAN ANTONIO, June 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT),
and Digeo, Inc. today announced Digeo has become the newest member of
Motorola's Horizon Developers Program, extending the companies' longstanding
relationship. As part of the agreement, the companies will begin the
technical analysis necessary to port the Emmy(R) award-winning Moxi(TM) TV
interface and software to Motorola's industry-leading DCT line of advanced
digital set-tops.
The announcement was made at the Society of Cable Telecommunications
Engineers Cable-Tec Expo (Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, San Antonio)
where Motorola (Booth #6086) and Digeo (Booth #1287) are exhibiting.
Already available on Motorola's Broadband Media Center line of products,
Moxi(TM) software and services help cable operators reduce churn, increase
loyalty and drive greater revenue from the subscriber base. The Moxi software
integrates high-definition television with a dual-tuner digital video
recorder, enabling a subscriber to watch one channel while recording another.
Subscribers can also quickly search for and select On Demand video content,
and access instant weather, sports and news via an interactive information
ticker. Moxi software and services enable cable operators to offer
subscribers additional revenue-generating services including a wide selection
of games, as well as display and management of photos on the TV.
Porting the Moxi TV interface and software to Motorola's DCT product line
would make the highly acclaimed TV interface available on the world's most
widely deployed set-top platform. To date, Motorola has shipped more than 37
million digital set-tops worldwide, including 1.5 million high-definition
digital video recorders (HD-DVRs).
The Horizon Developers Program is dedicated to providing independent
software vendors (ISVs) like Digeo with the tools and engineering support
necessary to develop applications that are compatible with Motorola DCT
set-tops. The program's focused planning methodology enables the efficient
integration of applications with the hardware platform, reduces integration
and test times, and ultimately produces a more stable system for cable
operators.
"Combining the Moxi TV interface and software with Motorola's DCT product
line would give cable operators another platform choice beyond what's
available today," said Bert Kolde, chief operating officer for Digeo. "If the
technical analysis study proves successful, the industry's easiest-to-use
interface will be even more widely available, thereby helping cable companies
achieve greater business benefits and fend off increasing competition from
satellite and telco companies."
"Motorola is delighted to be working with Digeo to further extend the Moxi
experience to millions of consumers," said Mark DePietro, vice president,
product management, Motorola consumer entertainment solutions. "This agreement
will enable cable operators to tap the robust capabilities of Motorola's
latest generation of the DCT6400 Series set-tops to bring the innovative Moxi
user interface to subscribers."
