Plans on Schedule for Nielsen Media Research to Become
an Independent Publicly Traded Company on July 1
NEW YORK, June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Nielsen Media Research (NYSE: NMR),
which will become an independent publicly traded company on July 1, today
announced the members of its board of directors.
The directors of Nielsen Media Research were elected on June 15 by the
board of Cognizant Corporation, which is on schedule to separate into two
public corporations -- Nielsen Media Research and IMS HEALTH. As previously
announced, John A. Dimling will serve as president and chief executive
officer, and William G. Jacobi will continue as chairman of Nielsen Media
Research.
Other directors elected today include: James R. Craigie, 44, executive
vice president of Kraft Foods, Inc., and president of the Beverage and
Desserts divisions; Peter A. Lund, 57, former president and chief executive
officer of CBS Inc.; Michael D. Moore, 60, executive vice president, media
development for the MacManus Group, with holdings that include D'Arcy
Masius Benton & Bowles and N.W. Ayer; M. Bernard Puckett, 53, former
chief executive officer of Mobile Telecommunications Technologies Corp.,
and senior vice president of IBM; and Robert E. Weissman, 58, chairman and
chief executive officer of Cognizant Corporation.
James R. Craigie
Craigie is executive vice president of Kraft Foods, Inc., and president of
the company's Beverage and Desserts divisions. Kraft is a subsidiary of
Philip Morris Companies. Craigie joined the Philip Morris Companies in 1983,
and has served in a variety of senior-level management positions, beginning
with General Foods. In 1994 he advanced to executive vice president and
general manager of Kraft General Food's Beverage Division, and in 1998 became
president of the Beverage and Desserts divisions.
From 1975-81, Craigie was with the U.S. Navy/U.S. Department of Energy.
Craigie received a B.A. from the University of Rochester, and an M.B.A. from
Harvard Business School.
John A. Dimling
Dimling is president and chief operating officer of Nielsen Media
Research, and will become president-CEO when the company becomes an
independent publicly traded company, as scheduled, on July 1. He was named
president-COO of Nielsen Media Research in 1993. Dimling joined Nielsen Media
Research in 1985 and served in several executive positions, including senior
vice president in charge of Nielsen Television Index (NTI).
Previously, Dimling was executive director of the Electronic Media Rating
Council, director of corporate planning and analysis for the Corporation for
Public Broadcasting, and vice president and director of research for the
National Association of Broadcasters.
Dimling received an A.B. in mathematics from Dartmouth College, an M.S. in
industrial administration from Carnegie Mellon University, and a J.D. from
George Washington University.
William G. Jacobi
Jacobi is chairman of Nielsen Media Research, and will continue in that
position when the company is spun off from Cognizant Corporation. He also
is a member of the board of directors of the R. H. Donnelley Corporation.
Previously, Jacobi served as executive vice president of Cognizant, with
responsibilities as chairman of Nielsen Media Research, chairman of IMS
International and of Erisco. From 1979 to 1996, Jacobi was with
The Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, where he held a number of senior management
positions, including senior vice president - planning and acquisitions, and
corporate executive vice president. He was president and chief operating
officer of Nielsen Media Research from 1991 until 1993. Before joining D&B,
he was with United Brands and Celanese Corporation. Jacobi received a B.A.
from Amherst College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Graduate School of Business
Administration.
Peter A. Lund
Lund served as president and chief executive officer of CBS Inc. from 1995
until 1997. Previously he was president of the CBS/Broadcast Group and
president of the CBS Television Network.
Lund's broadcasting career spanned more than 35 years, beginning in
Pierre, SD as a reporter and salesman. He joined CBS in 1977 and subsequently
held a number of senior management posts including general manager positions
at WBBM-TV in Chicago and WCBS-TV in New York, president of CBS Sports, and
president of the CBS Television Stations. Lund left CBS in 1987 to become
president of Multimedia Entertainment Company, returning to CBS in 1990 as
executive vice president, CBS/Broadcast Group.
Lund is a member of the Board of Trustees at his alma mater, the
University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN.
Michael D. Moore
Moore is executive vice president, media development for MacManus Group,
with holdings consisting of DMB&B Communications and N.W. Ayer & Partners.
Moore began his advertising agency career in 1962 as an associate media
buyer for D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles. During the next 20 years, Moore
served in a variety of senior media management positions, becoming worldwide
media director in 1989, and executive vice president in charge of media
development for MacManus Group in 1998.
Moore received a B.A. from Washington and Jefferson College, and an
M.B.A. from Columbia University.
M. Bernard Puckett
Puckett is the former president and chief executive officer of Mobile
Telecommunications Technologies Corp. (Mtel). Prior to joining Mtel in 1995,
Puckett spent 26 years with IBM, most recently as senior vice president-
corporate strategy and development. Previously, he held executive positions
at IBM in marketing, finance, product development, manufacturing and new
business development.
He also serves on the boards of IMS HEALTH, P-Com, Inc., R.R. Donnelley &
Sons and Oacis HealthCare Holdings Corp.
Puckett is a graduate of the University of Mississippi with a B.S. in
mathematics.
Robert E. Weissman
Weissman was elected chairman and chief executive officer of Cognizant
Corporation in 1996, and will become chairman and chief executive officer of
IMS HEALTH when that company is spun off from Cognizant, as scheduled, on
July 1.
Previously, Weissman was chairman and CEO of The Dun & Bradstreet
Corporation, which he joined in May 1979 when the Corporation acquired
National CSS, of which he was president and chief executive officer. Prior to
that, Weissman was executive vice president of Rediffusion, president and
chief executive officer of Spencer-Kennedy Laboratories, and president of
Dickerman Manufacturing.
Weissman is a director of State Street Boston Corporation, IMS HEALTH and
Gartner Group. He graduated from Babson College with a degree in business
administration.
