"Sarah has been in the newswire business for many years, fine-tuning a
specialty in technology. She has an excellent understanding of technology
companies, and how we will best help them deliver their messages," said
Todd Grossman, PR Newswire's director of special market sales.
Skerik, who began June 1 based in Chicago, will be responsible for
developing strategies to meet the needs of high-tech clients and journalists
covering these companies and organizations.
According to Skerik, a great deal of attention has been paid to technology
companies, especially in the wake of highly successful IPOs and the current
bull market. Start-ups as well as newly public companies will need to use
different vehicles to gain and keep the focus on them, she said.
"Public relations as a whole is becoming more tech-savvy. Technology
firms will lead the way in the use of multimedia tools such as cybercast
events and conference calls on the web," Skerik said. "Using video and audio
to really illustrate what's at the heart of an announcement is becoming
popular, and these technologies let communicators reach broad audiences with
their messages. We will be adding to our existing suite of multimedia
products to assist communicators in delivering their messages in compelling
and meaningful ways."
Skerik has been with PR Newswire for five years, most recently as a senior
account executive in the Chicago office responsible for large PR agencies and
the technology account base. Prior to joining the Chicago staff, Skerik
worked in PR Newswire's Minneapolis and Cleveland bureaus. She is a charter
member of the Chicago Interactive Marketing Association and maintains active
memberships in the National Investor Relations Institute and the Public
Relations Society of America.
Skerik, who graduated from Miami University in Ohio, was formerly director
of marketing for PR News Service in Chicago.
