'Art of Safety' Educational Exhibit Highlights Drug Safety

Quintiles' Exhibit Features Powerful Images of Drug Interactions:
                            Encourages Dialogue

ATLANTA, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Attendees of the Drug Information
Association (DIA) Annual Meeting will be among the first to see images of
the human body's reactions to drugs, intended and unexpected, in the Art of
Safety, a traveling art exhibition of stunning and powerful images
consisting of electron micrographs and other core lab imagery. Quintiles is
sharing its commitment to drug safety education and encouraging discussion
of drug safety through the display of these beautiful and surreal images.
The images bring the responsibility of drug safety to light and
illuminate the beauty of science as an art. Each piece shows images of
drug-induced events-some positive, some negative-at the cellular level.
The purpose of the Art of Safety exhibition is to initiate a dialogue
about safety planning in relation to drug development through the impact of
the images on display. An open dialogue among stakeholders in the drug
development industry is critical in continuing to raise awareness regarding
the importance and value of safety planning throughout the drug development
life cycle.
"Given recent concerns with drug adverse events, the spectacular images
in this exhibit reinforce the need for increased awareness of drug safety
at every level of development, prescription, and consumption. "It's one
thing to read the data; it's another actually to see the impact on the
human body, and the Art of Safety demonstrates it clearly," said Sara E.
Miller, Ph. D., Professor, Department of Pathology and Director, Electron
Microscopy Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center.
The Art of Safety, one of Quintiles' new safety initiatives, has
appeared exclusively at preeminent scientific conferences this spring,
including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting
in Chicago, the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO) International
Annual Meeting in Boston, and BayBio in San Francisco.
Images are still being accepted for this traveling exhibition. Please
