CARLSBAD, Calif., June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Callaway Golf (NYSE: ELY) Staff
Professional Rachel Teske birdied the final hole to win the Evian Masters on
Saturday. Teske's final-round 68 gave her a one-stroke victory and the
largest paycheck in the history of women's golf -- $315,000. The win was also
the 10th for Callaway Golf's "Rule 35(R)" ball on the LPGA this year -- most
on that tour in 2001.
Teske used the "Rule 35" Firmfeel(TM) (red logo) ball and 12 Callaway
Golf(R) clubs in her victory, including a Big Bertha(R) Hawk Eye(R) VFT(TM)
Pro Series Titanium Driver, Big Bertha Steelhead Plus(TM) 3-wood, 5-wood and
7-wood, Steelhead(TM) X-14(R) Irons and an Odyssey(R) TriHot(TM) 2 Putter.
The victory was the fourth of her LPGA Tour career and her first since
back-to-back wins in 1999.
Teske tied her personal best with a third-round 66 -- which included eight
birdies -- and finished the event at 15-under-par 273. She now stands sixth
on the LPGA Tour money list with $469,708 and moved into the top 10 on the
Rolex Player of the Year points list. With Teske's victory, Callaway Golf
remains the winningest driver and iron brand on the LPGA Tour, while Odyssey
Golf is the winningest putter brand.
In addition to Teske's triumph, Callaway Golf's "Rule 35" ball also had
noteworthy performances on the PGA and Senior PGA tours this weekend.
Callaway Golf was second in golf ball usage at the U.S. Open, where Callaway
Golf Staff Professional Rocco Mediate used the "Rule 35" Firmfeel model to
finish fourth. Callaway Golf was also second in ball usage at the Instinet
Classic on the Senior PGA Tour. A total of five out of the top 10 finishers
at the event used the "Rule 35" Firmfeel ball, led by Callaway Golf Staff
Professional Jim Thorpe's fourth-place finish.
