Harvard Biotechnology Club Awards Acceptys, Inc. First Prize In Business Plan Competition

BOSTON, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- In the 2003 Biotechnology Business Plan
Competition organized by the GSAS Harvard Biotechnology Club, Acceptys, Inc.,
a biopharmaceutical company focused on the development of human antibody
therapies, was awarded first prize by the panel of judges comprised of members
of leading venture capital firms. The competition sets itself apart from
other business plan competitions by focusing on early stage biotechnology
companies from the United States, Canada and Europe.
"The judges found Acceptys's technology to be on the leading edge of where
the human monoclonal antibody market is moving, and that the markets targeted
by Acceptys offer significant opportunities. During the review process,
Acceptys further differentiated itself from other outstanding companies and
business plans with its excellent management team and a well reasoned business
model," said Chris Owens, the director of the competition. This year's judges
included representatives from the following venture firms: Flagship Ventures,
Oxford Bioscience Partners, Versant Ventures, Techno Venture Management, Fleet
Development Ventures, Puretech Ventures, and Zero Stage Capital. Second place
in the competition went to Hepatometrix, with
runners-up including Agrivida, AvanViva, and RETT.
"This award is a testament to the hard work my colleagues put into our
plan and our company," said Daniel Devine, President and Chief Executive
Officer of Acceptys. "In addition, the rare opportunity to receive direct
feedback from members of well respected venture capital firms provided
Acceptys with very useful and focused advice on how to improve our model and
enhance its value."
Acceptys is a privately held biopharmaceutical company focused on the
development of human antibody therapies for cancer and infectious diseases.
Through the deployment of Acceptys's proprietary human antibody discovery and
production technologies, Acceptys can develop antibodies with the highest
percentage of human composition (relative to competitive technologies) against
naturally immunogenic targets, leading to the right antibody against the right
target. To date, the technologies have generated a vast pipeline of promising
anti-cancer and anti-viral human antibodies that will be developed as
immunotherapies. These human antibodies are also being utilized by Acceptys
as tools to identify, validate and patent the molecular targets against which
the antibodies are directed.
