Maytag and UAW Officials to Resume Negotiations on a New Labor Contract

    NEWTON, Iowa, June 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Maytag (NYSE: MYG) and the
International Union - United Automobile Aerospace and Agricultural Implement
Workers of America (UAW), along with its UAW Local 997, have jointly announced
that negotiations are scheduled to resume beginning June 23 on a new labor
contract covering production and maintenance employees at Maytag's
manufacturing facilities in Newton, Iowa.

    Both Maytag and UAW officials have agreed to provide no further comment
regarding the contract negotiations during this period.  Contract talks
between the two parties were last conducted on June 10.
