Deliver Content to PacketVideo-Enabled Mobile Devices
LONG BEACH, Calif., Streaming Media West 2001, June 20 /PRNewswire/ --
Generic Media, creators of innovative technology and services for the digital
media industry, today announced an agreement with PacketVideo Corporation, the
recognized leader in software for the delivery of rich media over today's
wireless networks, to provide Generic Media Publishing Service customers the
ability to deliver content to PacketVideo-enabled mobile devices. Generic
Media's unique technology gives users the ability to make their content
available for streaming through PacketVideo's MPEG-4 standards-based platform
without having to revisit or re-encode streaming master files delivered by the
Generic Media Publishing Service.
PacketVideo's software will be supported by the Generic Media Publishing
Service to offer companies the ability to deliver their content with
PacketVideo's MPEG-4 standards-based technology. Support for PacketVideo's
standards-based format confirms Generic Media's continued commitment to
maximize the value and reach of content. PacketVideo offers a complete
delivery platform that enables the authoring, distribution and viewing of
video, audio, animation and rich graphics over current wireless networks to
mobile devices such as telephones and personal digital assistants.
"PacketVideo is working with Generic Media to expand the availability of
MPEG-4 standards-based encoding in a way that is remarkably easy for content
providers," said Robert Tercek, president of PacketVideo's Applications &
Services Division. "This new relationship will enable content owners to extend
their reach to mobile users without the need to master another set of
technologies to take advantage of this new market."
"Partnering with PacketVideo is a natural fit for Generic Media as it
firmly establishes a wireless streaming component of our offering, and further
illustrates our commitment to easily and immediately extend the reach of
content for customers," said Peter Hoddie, CEO, Generic Media. "The
complimentary nature of our respective technologies is unique. Because we
offer a service, customers get the benefit of PacketVideo support the day it's
implemented, without any additional work."
