PARIS, June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) announced at
the Paris Air Show today that the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) of the
Emirate of Abu Dhabi provided a letter of intent to award Raytheon a contract
estimated at $30 million to supply and install air traffic control systems for
Abu Dhabi and Al Ain airports.
Frank Marchilena, president of Raytheon's Command, Control, Communication
and Information (C3I) Systems, said, "Our goal is to deliver a world-class
air traffic management system to operate at both UAE airports."
The contract will supply AutoTrac II air traffic management systems along
with air surveillance long-range radar; secondary surveillance radar; surface
movement radar and an air traffic control simulator. All civil works and
voice communication systems are included.
AutoTrac is a fully integrated open-architecture system that evolved from
Raytheon's more than 30 years of ATC experience. It integrates radar and
flight plan data and displays the most accurate information to air traffic
controllers in a logical, easy-to-read manner. It increases controller
productivity, reduces fatigue and stress, and improves reliability.
Under a contract awarded late last year, Raytheon is providing a monopulse
secondary surveillance radar (MSSR) to the DCA. More recently, Raytheon
provided an MSSR to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) General Civil Aviation
Authority (GCAA). Raytheon has also been awarded a contract to provide an
AutoTrac II air traffic management system to Oman. Oman is currently
operating with Raytheon's AutoTrac I.
Raytheon's air traffic management facilities in the United States, Canada
and the United Kingdom will work in partnership with the Abu Dhabi DCA in
completing the program. These new programs in the UAE and Oman, along with
systems in Jeddah, Dubai and Bahrain, represent a significant presence for
Raytheon's air traffic management systems in the Gulf region.
With headquarters in Lexington, Mass., Raytheon Company is a global
technology leader in defense, government and commercial electronics, and
business and special mission aircraft.
