"People are concerned today about their democracy. They're frustrated
because infighting and partisan politics seem to dominate the political arena.
What happened in Florida during this past election only served to further
frustrated the American people with our political system," said Christopher T.
Gates, president of the National Civic League. "These communities we honor
here today, however, have found the antidote to American cynicism about
politics. These All-America Communities show that if people focus on their
shared values, the results they can achieve within their communities are truly
tremendous."
"On behalf of the people of Allstate, congratulations to the 'All-America
City Award' recipients," said Edward M. Liddy, chairman, president and CEO,
Allstate Insurance Company. "The winners as well as the finalists have
brought out the best in their communities. They've made our neighborhoods
stronger and safer places to live."
