Korea's KT, Cyclops and RSA Security Pioneer Use of Mobile Phones for E-Business Authentication in Asia

RSA SecurID(R) two-factor authentication provides account protection for
mobile phone users through automatically-generated passcodes

BEDFORD, Mass., June 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- In a first for Asia,
Korea's leading telecommunications company KT, with the leading provider of
online security solutions RSA Security Inc. (Nasdaq: RSAS) and RSA Security's
Solutions partner Cyclops, today announced the launch of the bizmeka User
Authentication Service. Created using RSA Security's RSA SecurID two-factor
authentication software, bizmeka allows KT's CDMA mobile phone customers to
secure e-commerce transactions by using their phones to generate unique one-
time passcodes.
"By providing this service, KT expects we can help consumers to robustly
protect their online assets," said Jong-Jin Chae, Senior Vice President,
bizmeka Team, KT. "We are proud to be the first telecommunications company in
Asia to offer this extraordinary security protection solution to Korean CDMA
mobile phone users."
According to Art Coviello, President and Chief Executive Officer at RSA
Security, "The mission of RSA Security is to protect and manage private
information. Through this offering, KT customers can utilize RSA Security's
strong authentication technology to safeguard their online identities and
secure exchange of information."
Korea's broadband Internet market is one of the most mature in the world,
boasting more than 31 million Internet subscribers and 20 million electronic
banking users from a population of around 48 million people. In 2004, the
online gaming market was worth KRW 1.7 trillion (US$1.6 billion), with over 12
million users. Korea also has in excess of 36 million mobile phone users.
However, this boom in technology services has seen Internet fraud, and the
illegal obtainment of user IDs and static passwords on e-banking and online
gaming sites, become a severe problem.
The bizmeka User Authentication Service now offers mobile phone users a
means to help prevent information leaks and protect their personal assets and
information from hackers and cyber criminals.
Once users join the bizmeka User Authentication Service and log in to an
e-business or online banking account, they will be required to enter a
passcode. Using RSA Security's patented authentication technology, their
mobile phone generates an eight-digit code that changes every 60 seconds.
This unique, one-time passcode is used to positively identity the user. A
valid authentication completes the log-in and users can then access Internet
services such as e-banking and online gaming. If the code is not validated by
the system, the user is denied access.
RSA Security's Solutions partner Cyclops has played a key role as the co-
developer of the project to localize the solution. "Using mobile phones to
access RSA Security's RSA SecurID solution is the future of secure information
exchange," said Dr. You Jae H., CEO of Cyclops Inc.
"RSA Security is committed to providing consumer and enterprise customers
alike with simple, but strong security, and the mobile phone is a natural and
convenient deployment option for many users," comments Christopher Young, vice
president of consumer authentication services at RSA Security. "In the
future, consumers will only need a single credential to access multiple
service providers across a range of delivery channels. This development with
KT is a significant step towards the fulfillment of that vision."
