DALLAS, June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In support of its mandate and vision to
provide high-quality, low-cost services that improve the health, well-being
and quality of life for Dallas County residents regardless of ability to pay,
Parkland Health & Hospital System has purchased state-of-the-art hematology
solutions manufactured by one of the country's leading clinical diagnostic
equipment companies, Sysmex America, Inc. Parkland is a public, tax-supported
institution located in Dallas, Texas and serves as the primary teaching and
research hospital of The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
"Parkland currently performs Hematology testing on 1,000 specimens per day
and anticipates that number growing by 6 percent annually over the next five
years. Through process redesign, we needed to consolidate all our Hematology
testing and improve our efficiencies without compromising quick turn-around
times. We also needed to address the issues critical to the future of all
clinical laboratories - the growing shortage of medical technologists due to a
significant decrease in the number of graduates and a 'near retirement' pool
of current technologists," said Patricia Kutscher, Laboratory Central manager,
Parkland Health & Hospital System.
"The lab's reconfiguration enabled the transition of our Hematology area
from stand-alone instrumentation to a highly reliable, intelligent and
accurate automation system. This system operates with less technologist
intervention which addressed our need for efficiency and standardization and
enabled us to compensate for increasingly limited access to qualified clinical
laboratory personnel," said Kutscher.
"As trusted public servants of the Dallas County Hospital District, we
diligently look for ways to maintain our high level of quality care while
streamlining operations and containing costs. It is in this spirit of
community service and stewardship that we have partnered with Sysmex America,
Inc. to achieve a self-sustaining future," said Jim Hayman, Senior VP,
Clinical Support Services, Parkland Health & Hospital System.
"We believe that our commitment to technical innovation and the proven
reliability of Sysmex instrumentation will assist Parkland as they embrace the
healthcare challenges of the future and work to improve the quality of life
for the patients in their community," said John Kershaw, President, Sysmex
America, Inc.
Parkland's purchases included a custom-designed HST System that consists
of three XE-2100 automated hematology analyzers and two SP100 slide maker
stainers.
Sysmex hematology analyzers have been ranked the best in the industry for
performance and reliability for the fifth consecutive year, according to an
independent survey conducted by a leading market research consulting firm.
Over 1,400 survey respondents, including department supervisors, lab managers,
technologists and senior technologists chosen at random from hospitals of
varying size from across the country, participated in the annual IMV
ServiceTrak(TM) customer satisfaction survey.
