Cala Foods and Bell Markets to Reward Loyal Shoppers With a New Way to Save

SAN FRANCISCO, June 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Ralphs Grocery Company,
California's "first" supermarket chain, announces the launch of an exciting
new shopper rewards card program for customers at its Cala Foods and Bell
Markets stores in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Beginning June 26, customers will enjoy additional savings and other
special discounts every time they use their new Cala/Bell Club Card when
purchasing groceries at their neighborhood Cala Foods or Bell Markets store.
Ralphs Grocery Company operates seven Cala Foods stores and 13 Bell
Markets in The Bay Area.
The new Cala/Bell Club Card is designed to reward loyal customers with
special discounts on thousands of items throughout the store. To enjoy these
special discounts, all shoppers have to do is present their Cala/Bell Card to
the cashier when they check out.
"We are committed to providing our customers with the savings, services
and products they desire. Our new Cala/Bell Club Card does this and more,"
said Chris O'Leary, group vice president of sales and marketing for Cala/Bell
Markets. "Our goal is to deliver a Cala/Bell Club Card program that is unique
to other supermarket loyalty programs and delivers Cala/Bell customers with
added values every time they shop with us. We're sure our customers will be
pleased with the unique points of difference the Cala/Bell Club Card offers."
In addition to significant savings on thousands of the items customers buy
most, Cala/Bell Club cardholders will enjoy discounts on entertainment,
travel, and other services, including airfare, cruises, car rentals and hotel
rooms. The company is evaluating additional discount partners and expects to
continually add more to the program.
Cala/Bell Club is easy to join. Cards have already been mailed to
thousands of customers in The Bay Area. Applications for the free card are
also available at all Cala Foods and Bell Markets stores. Customers simply
fill out a short membership form and their Cala/Bell Club Card and key tags
will be issued on the spot. The additional key tags give the entire family
the opportunity to enjoy Cala/Bell Club savings every time they buy groceries.
Customers may also apply for a card online at http://www.calabell.com .
Saving with Cala/Bell Club is easy. Customers simply look for specially
marked Cala/Bell Club items down every aisle of the store, present their
Cala/Bell Club Card to the cashier when paying and watch the savings ring up
automatically. A "Verified Total Savings" is printed at the bottom of every
receipt for cardholders to see how much they've saved with Cala/Bell Club.
To celebrate the card's introduction, customers who accumulate $300 in
spending with their Cala/Bell Club Card will receive 10% off their purchase
total on a future shopping trip. They will also be automatically entered in a
sweepstakes to win a 2002 Jeep Liberty.
"Cala/Bell Club has been designed to deliver real benefits to our
customers," O'Leary said. "Our new card offers a lot more than just cost
savings advantages found in other loyalty card programs. Our Cala Foods and
Bell Markets customers will see the difference with Cala/Bell Club."
The Cala/Bell Club Card was modeled after the popular Ralphs Club Card
program. Introduced in Ralphs supermarkets throughout California in 1997,
Ralphs Club is one of the most popular supermarket club savings program of its
kind with more than 15 million cards and tags in circulation.
Ralphs Grocery Company was founded in 1873 and currently operates more
than 450 conventional and warehouse-style supermarkets under the Ralphs, Food
4 Less, Foods Co and Cala/Bell banners in California and southern Nevada, from
its headquarters in Los Angeles. The company is a division of The Kroger Co.,
(NYSE: KR), one of the nation's largest food retailers, based in Cincinnati,
Ohio.
