SAN DIEGO, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- AVANIR Pharmaceuticals (Amex: AVN)
today announced that it will be presenting at the BIO2001 International
Biotechnology Convention being held in San Diego, California June 24 - 27,
2001. The Company will participate in a number of events at BIO2001,
including the Investor and Partnering Forum where President and Chief
Executive Officer Gerald J. Yakatan, Ph.D. will provide an overview of the
Company to potential investors and corporate partners.
AVANIR and its antibody generation services subsidiary, Xenerex
Biosciences, will also staff a dedicated meeting booth in the Partnering
Forum, at which pharmaceutical licensing executives, representatives of
large-cap biotech companies and other potential business partners can meet
with company executives.
In addition, Dr. Yakatan will be the chair of BIO2001's Innovative
Research and Treatment of Infectious Diseases Symposium on Wednesday, June 27,
2001 at 4:00 PST on the Upper Level in Room 9 of the San Diego Convention
Center. The symposium will include a panel of six senior executives of
biotech and pharmaceutical companies discussing the development of novel
anti-microbial, antiviral and immune system regulating therapeutics that may
lead to new treatments for infectious diseases such as hepatitis, herpes,
malaria, HIV and the common cold.
The BIO2001 International Biotechnology Convention and Exhibit is the
world's largest annual biotechnology event. It encompasses three days of
business and science sessions, attracting more than 10,000 industry leaders
interested in networking opportunities and attending the 350 technology,
investor and corporate partnering presentations scheduled.
