Uses Innovative Visual Content Framework(TM) to Provide
Direct Wireless Access to Real Business Information
BELMONT, Mass., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- ZFrame, Inc. today announced plans
to introduce a wireless browser solution that provides a simple, yet intuitive
framework for accessing original desktop content on any Web-enabled handheld
device. With the ZFrame solution, handheld users will gain the ability to:
directly access a full range of desktop content including original email
attachments, navigate using a fun and familiar desktop-like user interface,
and create customized business applications and content within minutes using
standard desktop tools.
The company will demonstrate a beta version of ZFrame for Palm OS(R) at PC
Expo in New York (June 26-28), in the ZFrame Exhibit Booth #4962. Supported
wireless networks include CDMA, CDPD, 802.11b and Bluetooth(TM) systems.
ZFrame solutions that support Pocket PC, Windows CE and Java will be available
later this year.
Until now, accessing original desktop content and navigating by the
traditional scroll down method has been frustrating to users of handheld
devices, leaving them less productive than their desktop and laptop computer
counterparts. Their ability to access a variety of content was constrained by
the small screen, they were unable to directly access email attachments and
other desktop content in its full and original form, and had limited access to
critical business information on both sides of the corporate firewall.
"ZFrame solves the navigation and content problems that have placed
barriers between handhelds and the enterprise, by providing a bridge between
desktop content and handheld devices," says John Robotham, president and
co-founder of ZFrame. "We have developed a practical, yet intuitive framework
for handheld communications that is fully scaleable, so there's no need for
companies to reinvent the wheel, and the integration of wireless across the
enterprise can be completed in the simplest form, at the lowest cost."
A Faster & Easier Way to Access Desktop Content on a Handheld
ZFrame's patent-pending Visual Content Framework(TM) provides a practical
way to view information on the small screens of today's multi-function PDA's
and cell phones. The ZFrame client browser and content server efficiently
retrieves full desktop content while preserving the original content and
graphics, and provides an interface that is as familiar and intuitive as the
user's own personal desktop. Because ZFrame uses visual navigation instead of
scrolling, the user has a better sense of where they are on a page. The
Z-Frame format also streamlines the protocols and client software, reduces the
waiting time for viewing a page and helps manage network client and server
loads.
ZFrame's dynamic pop-up and zoom-in features make it easy to access and
interact with full desktop content on handheld devices. The user simply taps
the pen across the page and the contents are revealed as dynamic pop-ups.
They can zoom in or click on hyperlinks, enter searches, fill out forms, read
email and attachments, access Web pages, intranet content, Microsoft Word(TM)
documents, or Excel(TM) spreadsheets. Because ZFrame provides a unified
browsing environment, users can send and receive email, activate hyperlinks to
public web or intranet pages, view email attachments, and browse documents and
spreadsheets, without switching applications.
A Simple, Cost-effective Way to Integrate Wireless Across the Enterprise
With ZFrame's unique Z-mode(TM) feature, IT managers can easily build and
deploy handheld content and applications within minutes using standard HTML
tools. Z-mode directly maps the page layout to the small screen with
pixel-accurate precision, and allows users to intermix and cross-link between
customized Z-mode and standard Web or intranet pages. The applications can be
cost-effectively deployed over today's cellular data networks and wireless
LANs with integrated access to legacy content.
Z-Frame is fully scalable and can be used over cellular or broadband
connections in or out the office, so the user can take the same content and
interface to a meeting, at home, or on the road. All pages and can be
intermixed and stored locally on the handheld device for visual browsing at
any time.
Technical Specifications
The ZFrame solution runs on any standard wireless or wired network, and
protocols use TCP/IP and HTTP transports. ZFrame supports any Palm OS(R)
compatible device with 8M memory, including PalmPilot(TM) and Handspring
Visor(TM) devices and the Kyocera QCP(TM) 6035 "Palm-phone". Support for
Pocket PC, Windows CE, and advanced cell-phone application environments (such
as Java(TM), J2ME(TM) and BREW(TM)) are planned for this calendar year.
Supported wireless connections include CDPD and CDMA cellular services,
802.11b, and Bluetooth(TM) systems.
Availability and Pricing
A beta version of ZFrame for Palm OS will be available starting in July,
priced at $25 for two months of beta service. After the beta period, the
ZFrame value-added browsing service will be available to wireless PDA users
for $22.50/month. ZFrame is a network service accessed through the user's
existing wireless connection and wireless service provider. The ZFrame
Enterprise Edition(TM) allows corporations to provide their own ZFrame service
for corporate intranet content, and will be available this calendar year.
Pricing for ZFrame Enterprise Edition server licenses range from $25-150K,
depending on the number of supported users. ZFrame solutions that support
Pocket PC, Windows CE and advanced cell-phone application environments (such
