Voice Signal's(TM) Embedded Speech Recognition Solution Now Available For Mobile Phones and Handheld Devices

VoiceTag(TM) Embedded Speech User Interface Solution Combines Continuous Digit
Recognition, Command & Control & Voice Dialing Capabilities

NEW YORK, June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Voice Signal Technologies, Inc., a
leading developer of embedded speech technology, will demonstrate its new
VoiceTag speech recognition solution for handheld computers and wireless
mobile phones at the Mobile Focus mobile imaging technology showcase event at
PC EXPO, to be held at the Metropolitan Pavillion in New York City this
evening.
VoiceTag's software enables voice dialing and speaker-independent command
and control on a mobile phone, as well as speaker-adaptive, continuous digit
recognition, making it the most versatile voice dialing product in the market
today.

Command and Control on a Mobile Device
In addition to voice dialing, VoiceTag's command and control capabilities
allow users to sort through all the functions on their mobile phone using
single, spoken commands. "There are so many features on today's mobile phones
that consumers have a hard time finding them all," said Stewart Sims, Voice
Signal's Executive Vice President of Marketing. "By adding speaker-
independent command and control to mobile phones, we are enabling users to
access features directly, with intuitive spoken words."
For example, instead of pushing a series of buttons to search through a
maze of icons, users can launch an internet browser on a mobile phone simply
by saying "browser," or they can view the last calls received simply by saying
"calls received." Users avoid the frustration of searching through the
extensive menu list used on many of today's devices.
Benefits of Speech-Enabled Voice Dialing With Continuous Digits
In addition to providing command and control functionality, Voice Signal's
VoiceTag offers voice dialing with continuous digit recognition, making it an
ideal solution for today's on-the-go mobile user. According to Sims, "today's
mobile phone users will increasingly have to rely on hands-free dialing as a
safe and convenient way to use their mobile phone in the car. Continuous
digit recognition, one of the hardest technical problems in speech
recognition, substantially enhances that capability."
With Voice Signal's software, users of wireless devices can now say a
series of numbers, and the device will dial the number ... all without any
button pushes. In addition, the software adapts to the user's voice, making
it highly reliable across a variety of accents.
Continuous digit recognition is also well suited to the new applications
currently being developed by automobile manufacturers, and, since the software
is platform independent, it will also run on today's handheld computers.

Embedded Speech Recognition In The Device
While many other speech recognition mobile solutions have either a server-
based or distributed architecture, Voice Signal's VoiceTag technology is
embedded in the device itself.
An embedded architecture has several important advantages over other
solutions, including: availability since the speech software is always
available whether a network connection is present or not; responsiveness since
the interface is not affected by network delays; ease of application
integration, adaptation to the users' voice increasing accuracy over time,
security and the ability to provide immediate visual feedback to the device
user and power efficiency.
VoiceTag's embedded speech interface software can be implemented today on
current mobile platforms, without requiring new telecommunications networks,
front-end processing standards, or other technical breakthroughs.

    About the VoiceTag Product Line
VoiceTag speech-recognition software is designed to make people more
productive with their mobile phones, handheld computers, and other mobile
devices. Each VoiceTag product combines embedded state-of-the-art speech
recognition technology, with support for an intelligent, task-oriented user
interface.
All VoiceTag products are fast, noise robust, accurate, and easy to
integrate into any of the microprocessor or DSP platforms found in today's
wireless devices. Moreover, all the products in the VoiceTag product line can
be extended with Voice Signal's unique VoiceTag EX functionality, which
includes word-spotting, wake-up commands, n-best choice lists, confidence
scoring, and out-of-vocabulary speech detection.
Application developers can use these features to design a more flexible
user interface that results in a higher Task Completion Rate (TCR). TCR
measures the user's success rate and efficiency in completing tasks. Voice
Signal believes that TCR is the most important measure of a successful user
interface.
